Stopped by Spector on my way north and bought a couple of parts. Dealt with some salty old guy that was a total dick. Wouldn't recommend that place to an enemy but they had something I needed for my 40 build.

Always been a fan of barn doors but that 100 tailgate makes a nice changing table

Threw the arb and sliders on that I shipped out from back home and replaced some crunchy connectors this week. They were brittle and had cracked when I had done the engine swap. Two coolant temp ones and the alternator plug.

Also got a load of parts from Japan. New window moldings and steering column. When I replaced the engine I also replaced the steering rack and both outer tie rods but the steering still had a slight notch or tiny bit of slop that was driving me nuts. On rough roads the steering wheel has what’s almost like a rattle. I inspected all the linkages and the slop is actually in the column between the steering wheel and the rag/u-joint at the firewall. I can hold the u joint by the pedals and still feel the notch when I wiggle the wheel. After some research turns out the collapsible columns actually wear and cause the slop. So I ordered this new shaft and will try to throw it in tomorrow.

I did replace all four moldings today and man does it look better. Also contradictory to what I read the interior door panels do not need to come off. This is an easy 30 minute job.

New steering shaft went in without a hitch. It took about an hour and a half but if I had to do it again would only be a 45 min job. That fixed the rattle/notch in the steering. Drives like a dream now. I also installed some SPC upper control arms in the hotel parking lot early Saturday morning before the sun came up. A little more caster and set the camber to about a half degree in. Can't tell too much of a difference driving but it seems to track a bit better at speed. The steering wheel stays centered on it's own a bit more which is an affect of the added caster.

Carnage of the steering shaft replacement.

@roma042987 Sweet drive through Pitkins Curve. I had the pleasure to work on that rock shed! Only one in our great state! That was some sweet times!

That’s a really cool road. The section from Pacifica down to Moro Bay is gorgeous and the weather could not have been better.

I was out at YPG end of last month and saw your truck (which looks a lot like our 04) on my way back to the hotel after a workout—I need to confess to peeking in your windows—I recall seeing some ARB component boxes in there and thinking, “kindred spirit!”
Still had the stock front bumper on it at that time, iirc.
Great work!!! May she serve you well.

Right on! That’s cool. Usually full of pelican cases for my tools. I park it on post when I’m back home, it’s cheaper than storage and I figure safe enough since you need credentials and have to go through an armed guard.

I haven't updated this thread in a while but my ocd is flaring up and I need to get this thread up to date with everything I've done to the truck. Took a quick trip out to Joshua tree at the beginning of December. Nothing difficult but some remote trails.

This part wasn't exactly technical but it was fun to flex out the suspension. Amazing how much the rear flexes on these things.

I put a set of 255/85r16 mud terrains on the in the fall but after 4k or miles I was fed up with them. Off road they were great but the increase in tire size kind of killed the drive ability for me. Most people probably wouldn't notice the difference but once I honed in on that particular thing it was driving me mad. So here I am at discount tire getting some stock size k02's put on

This post is kind of out of sequence but in April or May or so the washboard roads had taken their toll on the old man emu shocks and both front ones were pouring fluid. I decided to go with OE Toyota shocks for the front and also installed these Slee upper control arms so I could set the camber and caster. This photo was a few months post install so they were already a bit dirty.

Another mid December camping trip with some friends in the north Kofa's. Two jk jeeps with 38s and 40s, an early bronco on 39s, two razors, and my stock cruiser lol. I was slow but they were all impressed with all the obstacles it went over. At one point it was three wheeling with the back wheel a couple foot of the ground.
