Just sorting through stuff in the bowels of the shop that now have eternal sunlight (thanks to @mdsims ) and I find that there are at least 5 front engine hook variations.

Four of the five are different lengths, and all are handed the same way. The fifth, second from the left is the same length as the third, which is the most common in the collection, but is handed the opposite way from the rest. It has a tie tag that I pulled it from an FJ60.

I ‘think’ the longest ones came off ‘68s. Form follows function, and the extra height may have been overkill by Mr. T to clear the air pump.

And of course the upload rotated my pic after I typed the whole thing on my phone. Pfff.

Interesting. Just thinking out loud . . . .

I always thought that on a car assembly line, engines were installed from above. I'm sure most are. Some years ago, a friend of mine that had a career at GM said that some models are built with the engine installed from below. Seemed sort of odd to me, but he was in a position to know.

I assume the 40-series engines were installed from above, and that the engine hooks were used for that purpose. Then, they'd of course also come in handy some years later if the engine had to be pulled.

.

most new car stuff goes in from the bottom. tends to sit in a neat little cradle that also carries the front suspension.
unbolt teh cradle from the uni-body and lift the car off the front end.

did the 2Fs come with 2 engine hooks? Would they have been the same length?

The rear hooks were/are a different animal. They’re in the corner of the pic. The early ones were small, and utilized one of the manifold bolts. The FJ60 used the large V shaped hook on two of the rear cylinder head bolts.

Which hooks would be correct for 1965/66?

The rear hook always gets "lost" when you add headers, if I'm not mistaken. I know mine did and my buddy's, too.

do you have headers?

@65swb45 Old thread, but it was linked here from another wanted ad, so don't kill me.

What would be correct for 66/67? Was this even a thing then?
All the front hooks I posted are designed to be mounted to the passenger side of the head at the front, where the alternator went on a 2F. Since the F135 did not have any bosses there, it wouldn't have a hook there either.

That said, I still maintain that the F145 started showing up in 9/66, along with the D40, so there that.

Why would you say "so don't kill me.?

With the escalating combativeness of this forum, I guess I also have to ask for someone not to jump down MY throat. :meh: Sheesh. If this is the direction of the forum, my days here are numbered.

Thanks for the info!!

In my friend group, we joke with that phrase all the time. "Please don't kill me but...". "I have a stupid question so please don't hit me..." 😂 I was totally joking!

I'm just fresh off reading the Unobtanium thread. I see what you are saying. No need to get worked up folks.

@65swb45 I just left you a VM to check on front and back hooks to do a 1F for 2F swap. Thanks!
