You youngsters with better memories can correct me, but my recollection is that everyone wondered for years about the LX requiring premium and speculated that it was in the tuning. Then within the past year or so, tuners cracked the ECM tuning and found no difference in the coding.

Requiring premium just for an advertised 3-4hp? Makes no sense.

That said, both of our Lexus's get Costco premium because we think we get better fuel economy.

If I want to act rebellious, I install 10-w-30.

Not meant to be offensive. But you're willing to wager other people's vehicles, with nothing more than your layman opinion? I appreciate your enthusiasm and contributions but you have no formal knowledge here.

There's examples now of LXs replacing catalytic converters. There's potential causal reasons most don't understand or appreciate.

Casual commuting and putting these vehicles to work are two different things and most do nothing more than the former and might think they can get away with regular grade fuel.

But let's hear more opinions from those that you don't even own an LX?

Layman or not, I stated simple verifiable facts.

But yes, please keep reminding us of your deep well of past tuning experience. This forum gets new users every day that need to know who the real experts are.

Facelifted LX are a bargain compared.
Yes... if only if the design were as subdued as the LC :(
finishing the paperwork on this truck as we speak
2019 black on black
61k miles
2 owner Las Vegas truck
Clean carfax
Toyota gold certified and 8 yr extended warranty.
Got them down to $65k
I am gonna try to head over to Mare Island for Rigs/Rodeo and talk to the guys from Stellar Built.

Nice! I was looking at this specific car a couple weeks ago and almost pulled the trigger but decided to hold off a bit longer until I can get it under more preferable terms. I was seriously close to pulling the trigger and this looks like a great buy, enjoy!

The way you should interpret this is that both LC and LX will accept the same tune. Tuners are not in the business of comparing OEM tunes. Even the same model across different model years will often see variations in calibration.

Just to save people some time, this thread has by far the best explanation of the relevant systems and the possible impacts on users of both platforms:

Six years of near-daily use of this forum and I can't remember a single engine failure on a LX connected to RUG use.

Requiring premium just for an advertised 3-4hp? Makes no sense.

It's actually 2hp, or 0.5%. I forget the specific regulation but Toyota is allowed to adjust their stated figures significantly more than that in marketing if they want. Meaning it's entirely plausible that there is no power difference, but Toyota could have published one to differentiate the platforms.

Not saying they did, just that they could have.

If the opposite were true (the LX made significantly more power) they absolutely would have capitalized on that.

No surprise your post had words put into it's mouth and dismissed though.

And to save people time from the noise, conjecture, and misinformation. Real facts from the horses mouth. Worded consistently and strongly what octane requirements are for the LX570.

650 miles later I’m back home. Some observations:
Even though it’s “dated” the nav/entertainment stack works fine. Nav received traffic info and I used that all the way through without touching Waze.
Radar cruise works great but disengages below 30mph?? Spoiled by the system in the wife’s Benz.
For a body on frame truck this thing is super comfy. No squeaks or rattles and it eats up freeway miles, averaged 19.5 the way down.
I wish the fuel tank was bigger.
Hatch is great for picnics at truck stops.
Coolbox is awesome. Kept two large gatorades cold for hours.
Ran fine on 87 octane.

I had some initial remorse spending this much on a vehicle (my biggest car purchase to date) but after today I am sold on this thing. It rocks.
Next week I have an appointment with a PPF shop and also a consult for some suspension/wheel/gear parts. But honestly I want to wheel it stock for a month or two before I drop any money into it.

Thanks again for your insight.

Congrats! Welcome to the Landcruiser experience.. Mine is still rattle free at 200k. And yes the split gate is one of the best features. Somewhere to sit, and somewhere to stay out of rain and snow when needed. For that reason alone I’ll likely never downgrade to a 300-series or GX.

Congrats on the purchase. is that grapevine? i also averaged 19-20mpg on my 8 hour drive home. btw radar cruise i think disengages below 25mph.

Yup it’s the Laval road exit. Always stop to use the clean truck stop bathrooms and pick up some caffeine. As for the radar cruise I’m spoiled by the Germans, most of the bmw/Benz products I’ve driven work all the way down to zero mph and then start back up automatically.

Just FYI the radar cruise works at all speed on the newer LX. You do have to tap the lever if it stops completely. It makes a big difference for me in Bay Area traffic.

+2HP/+2TQ. The power difference in “premium required” 3URs is so minimal, it’s hard for me to believe that running 87 is detrimental by anything but a similarly negligible margin.

Mine is still rattle free at 200k.
Apologies for the tangent…

How? I can’t find the constant noise my 2nd row seat makes. I’ve tightened every bolt and laid some foam underneath the seat. It still makes noise and seems to have quite a bit of play in it.

Just picking one word out of this post: not sure if you're thinking about regear to go along with a new tire size, but I would recommend NOT doing that. Particularly in a 8-speed. If you think you might want to, hold off and drive your desired tire size with stock gears for a good length of time. You'll probably find the gearing is just fine. If you meant something else by "gear" then sorry for the derail. Congrats on the new truck!
