I was the high bidder until he cancelled the auction and put up a new one with an unknown reserve. It is an early 40. I would buy it for the seats and the drive train. If this 40 is reasonable, I have a line on another early 40 that needs a drive train. Depending on what body is in better shape, I believe I can make one good one and offer up the extra parts here on mud.

Polar Bear, somewhere in this forum Living in the Past has explained that the presence or not of the apron inlet correlates with the type of air filter originally fitted---dry type, no inlet; oil bath had the inlet, if I am recounting that correctly, and that 1961 was the last year for the apron inlet.

The 40 in that ad sure has been beat on. Still a lot to love about it, though.

If this was closer to me I would love to snatch it up. Exact same year as the one I have, and this one has a PTO on the front. My son texted me this one since it is the twin brother of my 1962 fj40 FST.

The inlet was only on oil bath air cleaner and was phased out during the 61 production. Same with the large gas caps. Two 61s, oldest is 10202 and has both inlet and large gas cap. Second is 108XX and only has the large gas cap. This one 12XX has neither. As far as I know the US market got the oil bath air cleaner as standard until the 68 model started but no inlet after first part of 61.

It appears to be Ramsey PTO winch but it also looks like it has the later three speed with that shifter. Would be curious what type of PTO it has. The lever on the floor doesn't look stock for either factory or Ramsey PTO units.
