Duratrac's a good compromise for everything?

i paid 219 a tire for 315, i dont think they are bad, cheaper than km2s and mtrs

Yeah I agree, much less than the KM2's, MT/R's and so on.

Were did you get that price? Been looking all over and best I have found is $236 each.

Doesn't that scare you a bit? You have to be losing something significant. I had been hoping to see this tire in a 37" given Interco's financial/production problems, but not if it is a light duty tire.

Don't try this with Duratrac?

when you guys say thin wall ... do you think they are thiner than BFG ATs ? I thaught that they are a 10ply tire, or is that just on the tread area?

I got my 285 at my local goodyear store with a price match from sears for 193ea. I just looked at the sears website and they've raised the price $40ea.

Yes a bit, but there competitive with the BFG AT's that are there direct competition (a bit more than them).

I do not think anyone has said its a heavy duty tire but its comparable to the other tires in its class. I does have a more aggressive tread and side wall than the BFG AT but its still in the same class.

I would not try that with my 80 let alone the Duratrac's. If i was still doing that stuff I would have kept the Solid axle swapped 4runner.

I never compared the two as I'd never consider a set of BFG AT's. But everyone in the tire business I've talked two has said "wow thats a thin sidewall" My 315's are E rated. Nothing rally to due with ply count. Just weight carrying ability.

This is the point I've been trying to get across.

If you look at the marketing material on the Duratrac's its target user is the construction guy who needs to get in and out of job sites, snow, etc... And light duty off road. If thats you, then this is a great tire. It works GREAT for what I bought them for, winter. Side benefit of the thinner sidewall is ride quality. They are = to my old Nitto TG's in that department. Even with the studs they are quiet. But come spring I'm putting on something that will be at home in the rocks.

As far as pricing I got mine in Oct from Summit Racing. They price matched Sears $216 at the time. Summit's shipping price can't be beat other than free. 5 tires freight was $53 to my door.

OK, I'm officially done beating the dead horse on this topic now :D

Aggressive sidewall or not, they're not 3 ply like the KO's.

I just put 33" KO's on my LC today (America's Tire pricematched Discount Tire Direct -- $208/each) and looked at the Duratrac's prior to plopping down by debit card. I didn't like the way they looked. But, this is a subjective thing.

I just checked at a Goodyear Gemini center in San Diego today and $230 per Duratrac 285-75R16 Load Range E.
I told the guy that I bought mine 13 months ago for $182 per tire... he laughed and said his cost was more than that. Dealer cost currently is $200, add a 15% markup = $230

I bought all mine for 10 less than that for 315s!!!!!! For 315s not bad for smaller is more costly.

Apart from being an incredible winter tire, has anyone experienced issues of "squirelliness" or "wandering" with the Duratracs on their 80? It seems to be a common complaint from non-mud reviews FWIW. I don't see much snow - the occasional trip to Mammoth or Big Bear - and truly I'm wondering how they'd like 100º+ heat in SoCal on extended highway runs at speed, some really windy canyon roads, and rutted washboard fire roads on a daily basis. Anyone DD on Duratracs that's not happy with them? I'm sure y'all will convince me...

My :princess: and I haven't noticed any "squirelliness or wandering" on either rigs. We love the tires and our only complaint so far is that we should've gone bigger.:p:D

I run them at 38psi and have no problems wandering etc. The only time I experienced any skechiness was in Wyoming with a 70 mph crosswind causing the truck to jolt all over the road. I wouldn't blame the tires for that though.

Good feedback. I think I'm going to pull the trigger...just need to find a set, it looks like a national backorder until the end of the month.

I ran a set of 285/75 Duratracs for 25,000 miles with no wandering issues in SoCal, NorCal, and Arizona. From Big Bear in the winter to Phoenix in the summer I didn't have any problems. They wore great with regular rotations. I sold them for $550 when I moved to 315s, they still had another 20k worth on them.
