I am guessing no one ever figured out how to make the strips the DRL instead of the low beam?

So..... no one in the USA has figured this out yet? Sorry just asking. Visited family overseas and it out this back in my mind. It seems like such a simple thing, but I guess it’s not as there seems to be no solution. Or USA owners don’t really care about it.

I think that the only known path forward is the one illustrated in the Aussie forum posted above by @ckkone. The reason, I believe, is that for 16+ Toyota has moved lighting control to the body ECU, to include things like flashers, etc. If you are seriously interested, join LCOOL.ORG and find the post using the link above. The thread there, by user KO7624, has pictures and words supporting the modification.

USA gets different headlights which complicates things. I did a lot of research on this as found it stupid as well. At the end I have imported DRLs which go around fogs (see post 21). I have used them on my LC16 and on my 2020. If interested, let me know as may have couple more sets in storage. Bought more as backup but they seem very reliable as I am still on original set which I had on my16LC.

Hey all, I wanted to bring this thread back to the top as I am not sure of how this works either. Was wondering if there was any deeper thought with all this time at home, that there was someone that came up with a solution. Any help or organized effort to solve it would be very interesting.

Just picked up a 2021 LC200 and noticed this same thing. The LED strip is illuminated once the lights are on but doesn't function as a DRL. I used to do conversions on GMC's so as long as my wife allows I will start looking around and see what I can come up with. On the 14-15 GMC 1500 SLEs I was able to take the low voltage feed from the halogen running lights they used send it through a relay, rob power from a switched 12v source and power the SLT/Denali headlights. Basically had to build a whole harness. It may be as simple as finding the wiring schematic for the headlights and robbing a 12v source to power the LED as a DRL since you can disable the headlight drl in the system.

Secondly is there a software out there that would be capable of switching them on in the BCM? Something similar to Forscan used in fords. I searched ebay and see a couple used broken headlights where the seller has the LED stripped powered on for picture purpose so I know it has a power wire.

Toyota saves those for the LX.

Thats only part of the story. The LX in other market in '16+ has sweeping signals. In the US they are blinking, and not only did they disable it for some reason but the light assemblies are a cheaper build that excludes the individually addressable leds entirely so it cant be programmed.
