We have some BMW e36 seats spec'd for my 40 for use in conjunction with Cumminscruiser's tube cradle system. Methinks the seats will be too tall. The seat has like 4" tall of control handles and the seat itself above that. Even with the old bus steering wheel out I doubt they'll work. They're manual BMW seas but fully adjustable, and that's a fetish of mine....screwing with seat adjustments. So I need plan B and no racing buckets either. This must be daily driver level seats.

Suggestions?

You can build or have built a seat mounting bracket that allows the driver seat to be lower than the passenger seat. However, it sounds like this seat it REAL tall... My not work very well.

Thanks Shawn. Look up Bill's seat cradle system. BAD TO THE BONE. Cumminscruiser is his Mud handle. Best I've seen on Mud in 5 years, short of incorporating it into the rollcage. The seats are gratis and adjustable which I like. Probably an electric BMW seat is lower profile.

Most of the "racing" seats you see at Summit, etc. just look cheesy to me. The once exception would be the Mastercraft seats I guy here has in his totally restored/modded 40. They just weren't plain enough for me but damn comfortable.

Boneyarders are so much cheaper, and usually some good import seats with power fit the bill, so that's an option too.

Find some '90s Celica or MR2 seats at the pick and pull, mine are manual but have all kinds of adjustment ;)

Yes, I have seen his mount. It does look nice. But sounds like it will not work for you.

I have MasterCraft seats in mine. Nice seats. I made my own mount. I will be re-making it so that I can have the drivers seat lower than the passenger seat. I am 6'3" and the drivers seat is a little too tall for me. I figure I can lower it 2 inches or so and it will not look too bad. I have a console in the middle, so it may not be too noticeable.

Alex I put some Corbeau Baja RS seats in mine. The are reclining seats but no other adjustments that that. They are very comfortable and I paired them w/ some Corbeau seat belts. They were kinda pricey but I am very pleased w/ them. I also made my own seat cradle and they don't seem to be too high for me. I'm 5'11".

ProCar 1200's from Iron Pig Offroad

I made my own seat brackets using some angle iron. Work very well and fully adjustable. They are really nice for those long trips. and no issues with the steering wheel being to close.

The Corbeau Sport looks pretty good, but still leaning toward yanking some from a newer car with electric controls for same or less money.

Just installed some seats from a 2005 corolla. Took quite a bit of cutting and fitting to make them work with the stock mounts, you probably realize now just how thin the stock seats are compared to almost any other seat. Just mounting the seats to the stock rails it sits almost 4" taller, about half of that due to the much thicker cushions. I had to cut the seat frame to rail mounting to lower each one a couple inches, especially the drivers side, and also make some new top mounts out of some C-channel. I still ended up about 2" higher than stock on the passenger side, and about 1" higher on the drivers side. With the extra slide adjust ability, seat bottom tilt, and back angle adjustment I can get it to sit pretty comfortably and not notice the added height.

If I were go go back and redo it, I'd probably ditch the stock mounts completely and fab up something that sits much lower to begin with, it's a lot easier to raise a seat higher than it is to lower the seat mechanism.

NIce seats guys, buy the way, please keep em coming!

I yanked some volvo seats from a pick n pull in Dallas. All I had to do was flip the brackets around, in the rear, and it was a, literally a direct bolt in. They had some sweet volvo seats out there alot of them were electric too...

Need pics! Which P&P did you go to? I've never gone to one.

Here are a couple of pics, I went to pick n pull south, these vovlo seats are out of a 89 940, manual, they had three or four mid ninties models that had good looking electric seats, I purposeley chose these because they were sorta beat up, that way I dont care if it rains, as it has done this entire week, and they had the seatbelts still attached.

They sit maybe an inch higher than the ones I had before, but hey I lost some weight and now I dont notice.

Whatever happened with this? I too have a line on some early 2000s BMW E36 seats that are vinyl and fully manual. To me that's perfect, but if huge mod because too high, that will be a no-go. Please Advise and THX.

My tank is now in back and it still sits a little higher with the BMW power seats, which are even thicker I'd assume. It's nice though. I'm 5'10 and its perfect. Manual BMW is better bc it's a pain trying to get all the wiring to work for a 2000 and above Bmtroubleu. Still dealing with getting the wiring to work.

You can, like @Shawn Russell said, make a mount with two different heights. The tank restricts how low you go on the passenger side but we did a two level mount for a customer who was over 6' and his wife was well under

passenger side, +1.5", #1243
drivers side, lifts and removes for access to underseat box
