Rastaforte,

Thanks for the nice comments! I have been following your build for a while now. Have you got here driving yet?.....
longbow---- er, not quite driving yet. I'm thinking 4-6 wks tops...should update my buildup since I just finished the engine move.

... subscribed to your build thread as well... you are HARDLY the poorboy's poster child for diesel rigs! Sadly, I might be.

...Pardon folks, taking this off & over threads

A few small details to work out with the clutch system but all in all a pretty tidy fit if I do say so myself. More updates on tuesday of next week. I am taking a few days off to go ride some singletrack.

Thanks for looking!

Clint

Wow, you got tons of hood clearance. This will be nice with the weight down low.

Zach's got some family stuff on the 21st. I still have that day off, do you need more help?

Sheez... you have enough room in there for two of Em! Makes the 6BT look like a Fat Cow.....

So fricikin cool man. I am amazed at the fast progress you are making!
Yes, I should move me and the RastaRig to Oregon....
I am a IceMan compared to these Forest People up there on the Rugged Coast!
You make Welding,
Cutting,
Bolting only the slightly
slower than your
Lightning
Execution....

Bravo!

Clint,
That looks great! Your's is over to the left a little more than mine and that will be much better for your AC compressor clearance. You probably already know that and planned it that way didn't ya.

You're gonna be drivin' that thing real soon and your gonna smile every time you start it up and hear that sweet diesel clatter!

Great job!

Don

A fat cow that could destroy your drivetrain it you woke it up a bit. The 6BT is a extremely powerful engine.
I like the way it looks in your engine bay, it just seems right there.

Yeah I am thinking it will be easier to route the intercooler/ intake stuff right over the top and not behind the head and firewall. Plus the low center of gravity thing will be advantagous for sure.

The 21st is good for me. I have T-ball at 830 am so I will be back and ready to go by 10 am. Lets plan on that day to start and run the truck and make some engine adjustments!!

So fricikin cool man. I am amazed at the fast progress you are making!

Its all been some basic reaserch and the help of Longbow/ Doug720 and thier conversions and pics. I am too just soo happy that I went this route instead of small block or 4BTA its just such a nice fit and easy to work on.

Yeah Don we worked through some fittment issues and I was happy that we set the engine and tranny flat instead of clocked. This allowed me to center everything and clear the A/C compressor and hopefully give me some more room for the bigger turbo. I picked up some T3 flanges and hope to do some mock up next week for placement.

mmm torque. I can't wait. I like the 6BTA but it's an absolute monster. Besides I will be working on my brother-in-laws 6BTA sooner or later! We can't have the same set up! :D

Clint

21st it is. I'll plan to show up at 10ish.

Nice build! This truck is gonna be sweet!

Thanks Rigger! I do appreciate it. It's killing me right now having the truck down but I am making good progress and want to do things right.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I ran into a couple of small things and after way too much time spent chasing my tail I just took a break. The last couple of days have been pretty productive though. I worked for 5 hours on Friday and about 5 today. I am shooting for the start day on Sat and need to finish up a few things before then.

First isssue I ran into was that I shipped some injector parts to Eugene with my cores that I needed for the fuel rail return system and had to wait on the Isuzu dealer to ship them out. No big deal and not too expensive but a day was lost on that issue.

I pulled and drained the fuel tank and then ran new soft lines. I also pulled all the emissions crap as well as the not needed hard emission lines on the frame rail. No pics of this its boring stuff.

I turned my focus to the Diesel pedal and getting that going. I asked for in the WTB section for an FJ62 pedal and throttle cable. I paid a guy on here $60 for it and it showed up with no throttle cable. I was able to source on local for $50 but again time wasted. When I went to fab it all up nothing fit of course. The pedal was was from something else. I said forget it and busted out the die grinder and welder and went to town. This is what I ended up with:

cjbaseball185.jpg

$110 Diesel pedal cut up from what I got in the box and my old one! Not too bad but wasted time and money as I could have built the same from a junkyard for $10.

Next I jumped on pulling the dash and isolating the ignition system wires. I started to wire up the starter relay and glow relay but got sidetracked a bit. I hated my old set up with the ARB, dual batteries and all the extra uneeded wires on the fenders. It just looks cluttered. With all the spagetti mess gone I spent the better part of today isolating the gasser stuff I didn't need and plumbing everything over to the drivers side.

Look ma, no wires:

I pulled the carb fan and plastic intake and took an old cutting board to fill the hole and have a place to route wires. I also pulled the headlight squirter system and replaced it with an electrics panel. This will have my relays for starting, glow, dual battery and aux lighting. This is my start for now. I may change or add at a later date.

Prior to pulling the dash I did some initial sound deadening and put on my ported steering box (thanks manuchao!) for future hydro assist.

Heres my dash on left side of steering column. This is where my dual battery switch, inverter switch and bastard glow switch will go.

Next up is to tackle the intake, power steering hoses and fab on the turbo. Wed is going to be a busy day!

Thanks for looking!

Clint

Next up is pulling that sticker from your dash! Mine might still be there.. it is nearly a tattoo it is on so well.

Keep an eye out for an obvious sticker for above your fuel door. Something in bright red for the gas jockeys. I found some large rear quarter stickers for 4.2L TD Patrols in Aus that seem to work. Now it is more "I've never seen one of these in a diesel" than "Are you sure you want diesel?"

Glad it worked for yah Clint....
Keep up all that great work......
Soon you'll be driving it down the hwy...

Clint,

Thanks for the update! I've been waiting for some new pics.l

Everything looks great! I especially like the PS side fender without wires.

I had to laugh when I saw your fuse box hanging out. You have the same headlight buzzer I have. ;) God bless the "Best mods under $50" thread!

I like your 3 switch box on the left of the column. Is that a one piece or the 3 piece carling style? Where did you get that if you don't mind tellin'?

I'm going to do some sound deadening here soon as well. Did you use the roofing stuff from Lowes or did you use some specific sound stuff?

Looking good brother! Can't wait till you start her up and take it for the maiden run.

Have fun!

Don

Hi Don,

Thanks for checking in. As much as I would have liked Mike and I just didn't get to starting it yesterday. I think thats ok because I am going to tidy up a few more things with relays, wiring, switches and cooling before we go any further.

As far as the 3 panel switch it is a carling panel. The name was cast into the plastic. However I have yet to find an actual carling part # for it. With that being said I bought it on ebay from a vender in washington state. It was way too much money as I have found that the new carling inserts are like $1 each through waytek.

I also bought an 8 panel gang from the same vender and will be installing that where my ash tray is to hold my ARB switches and others.

Mike took some pics of misc stuff yesterday and once I get going today and wake up I will go through them and post up.

Clint

A build of this magnitude is definitely worthy of a hood shock conversion! Looks good Clint!

Yeah, I just found out about Waytek the other day too. I paid way too much for my relays. I wish I found them 6 months ago . I was surprised how cheap their prices for the Carling stuff are.

What was the sound deadening stuff you used?

Don
