Good night riding regardless. 🤘🤘
At least you didn't land on that purty face of yours! After I went face-first into the pavement some years ago (right side of face road-rashed away, severe concussion) it really put a damper on my modeling career - had to transition to only doing intimates/underwear.

8.35 miler this morning. Hazy, hot and humid. More of that to come, no doubt. Felt pretty good all the way through, though just a bit tired in a spot or two near the end.

Bike is spot on. Man, 8 years of riding this Pivot Machine 429 with regular maintenance pays off. Nothing is worn out. 😀

Road the JRT last night after getting to the south end of the valley. They were paving the trail (finally!) and had to head up a side trail to get back on the road. Photo is looking east across the valley at Mount Olympus (left) and Twin Peaks (right).

These "harder" or "easier" charts in Strava can be so deceptive.

If you look at the elevation chart below you'd think the hardest part was the east side of the valley (we road counterclockwise).

The hardest part was riding south on the west side into a constant 20+ mph wind from mile 26 to about 37 which was all flat. Sucked it out of me.

Went out for steady spin yesterday on the gravel bike, as I'm waiting on the last bits for the new bike (should arrive today) and then that'll be out next weekend for it's maiden voyage once I tidy brakes hoses and shift cable up.

35km, 1hr40 so not quick, but given the lack of riding at the moment, I'm quite happy with that.

Bits arrived today... of course after I had left work (admittedly for a funeral) but the logistics guy lives on the route home, so a detour there to pick up the parcel and it was build the last bits up before final fit out:
  • 50mm of spacers for the steerer tube, then get that cut down, put star nut in and tighten head set
  • finalise brake and gear cable lengths (which may be do nothing on the brakes, as there isn't that much spare hose really),
  • tighten up the calipers once they are centred on the disc).
  • tighten the disc bolts with the torque wrench (didn't have 1/4" socket in the house for the T20 bit, but did have the little ratchet for the T20 bit)
So, all on track for a ride on Saturday...

As it stands now:

SLX cassette, mech, cranks + chain ring and shifter, Deore 6100/6120 (2 piston) brakes front and rear on 160mm rotors, DT Swiss 350 hubs on Stan Flow EX3

Funn Stryge stem (60mm), Ritchey Buzzard bars, some grips that were lying around (and the pedals came of wife's old bike in the UK - some 15+ year old Shimano SPDs that have hardly been used), WTB Ranger 29 x 2.4 tyres, saddle from Giant Talon mountain bike (take-off at the shop)

And some old skool anodised bling bits:

Those bars are great. Looks like you have alternate hand positions near the stem and maybe at the bends. I recently bought some Soma Sparrow bars that look pretty similar, but I have no idea what I'm going to do with them. I got caught by a Memorial Day sale haha.

I've got the lower rise version on my hardtail, and have found them to be great. As you say the bends look good positions, and I may yet wrap some road bike tape there to give me some positions inboard.

It's going to be the upright bike I wanted it to be, but it's still playful and will trail ride nicely I suspect.

Finally feeling good enough to… ride 9.5 miles to work. Come 4PM it’ll be another 9.5 home.

First real fixie ride this evening.

Jenna tuned it up with new tires and a new tension adjuster in the rear. New rear cog as well: 42:17

This is **definitely** interesting. And quite different riding experience. My knees might hate me soon. Riding this style at 50 (with two meniscal surgeries) vs 20 or 30 is definitely a challenge.

At least I didn’t die.

A friend introduced me to his favorite leg of Treadwell ditch trail via Gastineau meadows on Douglas island.
It’s quite a bit of uphill first off, then a narrow trail through the forest. The two photos don’t really show what it’s mostly like since they’re in the open on easy terrain.
He’s got the red Pivot and is far more skilled than I am. Total time on the bikes was a bit over two hours. An interesting aside, we are both 6’4”+ but he weighs 60 lbs more! I’m so thin, just skin and bone, he’s a bit overweight.

Karen and I rambled around the neighborhood earlier this week right after sunset and at one point we swapped bikes. I hadn’t been on a fixed gear for well over a decade. Crazy what a different experience it is huh?
