After almost 30 years of loyal services, it’s time to retire my old Daccordi. Just bought a new Pinarello X.

Did a 60 mile group ride today with The Breakfast Club out of Austin. (They came up to Dallas) Met a guy who works for Lexus North America in strategy. We get to talking GX, Land Crusier, etc and turns out he has one of the pre production models (a luxury trim) he has been driving around for the past couple weeks. He throws me the keys and says to take it for a spin. I obliged and well, for the 15 minutes I spent taking it around the block and back (maybe a 5 mile jaunt around downtown, no highway) I honestly just felt kinda whelmed. Like I didn't hate it but I also didn't get all that excited about it. It's different than the outgoing 150/460 that's for sure and it's no 200.

Well, bummer. Herniated a disc (L4/L5). Won’t be riding for a bit as rehab. Getting old sucks….

That said, I’ll be in Steamboat at the SRAM/Velocio booth next weekend (8/16) if anyone is doing the Steamboat Gravel race. I’ll be with my “serious” biker friends hanging out— always wanted to see what these big bike races are like. Going to bring a bike but don’t know if I’ll be able to ride by then.

You’ll be fine… I’ve been riding with a herniated disc and a bulging disc for 30+ years. I find that even when I’m hobbling in pain, once I’m on the bike or spin bike, the pain just disappears.

Heck, yes I rode! 13.7 miles with 787 feet of climbing. Fastest ride of the year on this loop.

The rocks and roots were wet due to a shower last night, so I was cautious. Must have picked up the speed in other places.

Still humid in Massachusetts, but much more comfortable temps. I did spank that ride this morning. :)

BTW, two things really helped with my back, besides back exercises.

Whenever the vertebrae would move around because of the herniation, or bulge, laps in a pool would move them back right away. No more pain.

By far, the biggest helper was strengthening my core. A strong core kept the vertebrae from wiggling. Spinning did that for me nearly 17 years ago. Now, I barely have an issue. Before, dang, always hobbling and standing lopsided.

HTH

Great advice.

I've got a few mitigating issues namely I've had back surgery on the RH side at L4/L5 (microdiscetomy) and for years used my LH side as a crutch. Most likely has caught up. I do train twice a week but I think I need to pump those numbers up. And yes, core is where it's at. I'm working on core a lot and need to concentrate more.

I also have really bad tinnitus that affects my balance and this has been an ongoing issue that's influenced a lot of my physical activities that require balance-- especially biking. And of course, no cure for tinnitus. It just gets worse and worse until you go deaf.

Ask your doc if an adidicktami would help.

:flipoff2:
Heal quickly. like ravewoofer I'm never more comfortable and pain-free (except for the cramping bonking and vomiting) than when my ass is on my bike saddle my feet are clipped-in and my chest is over the stem (ish)

Man, I feel bad for you! The doctor has had me off the bike for a few weeks and have a few more to go and very light weight restriction at work. Severe shoulder and elbow pain. But, I'd take that over any kind of back problems! I've been hitting zwift and gotten back into running. How nice it is to do something different. I love riding, but didn't realize how burnt out I was getting, just pedaling.

Anyway, hope you have a speedy revocery!

Yikes @OGBeno - that sucks. Hope you get better, but take your time.

Always wanted to ask about the rear triangles on bikes with dropped seat stays. How do you find it rides in comparison to regular height seat stays?

Was out of town for a couple weeks and off the bike.

Came back and went for a ride w/ the club and got dropped in the first 8 miles. So cut out the big climb and just road the rest of the course.

When I got back to the vehicle, the temps read 98 in the LC. No wonder. Gotta reacclimate.

Bust out a MTB and do single track. It will be like new in no time!

I went to work today after two days horizontal alternating ice/heat/walking trying to just stand up straight.

Bad call. Brain was bad due to pain. All I wanted to was ride my fǔcking bike.
Hope it gets better for you man. No surgery here but had massive lower back pains for years until I picked the bike back up. Thank god the bike keeps me going strong.
