what's up wit dat rusty ole spare bro?

yeah yeah :D

So

What is indicative of a manifold exhaust leak?

Basically idles like a champ :)

When i am on it when it has not warmed up it cuts out and has zero power and stalls / cuts out...

when it is warm, i still get some weird spots or crackly sputtery power, and some warbling when at constant speed. when decelerating some muted popping, not back fire, but the kinda sound an exhaust leak might make perhaps...

Could be just fuel debris from the filter etc, and i am changing the filter often, but i just want to be sure.

Any sure fire way to test for an exhaust leak of the manifolds / head?

those are usual signs for a vacuum leak. do you hear a ticking? spray some carb cleaner or starting fluid around the manifold. if you have a leak it will smooth the engine out or raise the rpm. do you see black soot around the manifold at all upon visual inspection? you can try to tighten the bolts there too.

Thanks for the response man :)

I see some black soot in the tail pipe, but I will look around the manifold.

Where do I spray, between the manifold and the block? between the two manifolds?

Do I spray when the motor is warmed up or a cold start?

Also, how dangerous is it to spray carb cleaner on a hot manifold?

BTW, I have the spare wheel blasted and painted soon, mounted with the proper tires :D

It may be running to fat at idle (set at running temp) or choke butter fly could be disrupting the ari flow at cruise cauing it to sputter. Think there is several things there Destin.

yeah def :)

If I set the air mixture lean at running temp it definitely runs better warm. ( 1 and 1/2 turns out from tight )
But it will barely run idle cold ( until warm )
But lean almost starts immediately, running fat or rich is definitely harder to start.

hehe I will eventually figure it out with your guys help...
I will mess with it some more tomorrow.

I am thinking the manifolds are leaking in the mix somewhere, but it is hard to determine.

But it will barely run idle cold ( until warm ) It's and F motor

I am thinking the manifolds are leaking in the mix somewhere, but it is hard to determine. Explain your thought here. or just drive it down to me for 30 minutes and I can have it timed if you can get me all the info needed, like marks and *'s from TDC and mixture adjusted.

I have massage tomorrow, so I will be gone from 2-4

Right on man, I might drop by after 4pm, but i text ya ahead of time if I do.

I need to apply the water proofing to the top tomorrow morning, and it needs 6 hours to dry.

Is 1 and 1/2 turns out to snug?

Cool bro thanks for the help :)

Do you have an F engine repair manual?

Timing light, vacuum gauge, feeler gauge for valves.....

Lots of basic tuning that you're doing here.......If you have a manual, just follow the tuning procedures......timing, carb adjustments, etc.....

really simple......just do a little, drive it, adjust......not too much all at once or you start loosing track of what's adjusted right and whats not.......

yeah, timing is like one degree off, but would it cause all that?

Also, should i jack with the octane regulator nob on the distributer?

On a side note...
Heat riser is moving free and clear, snaps back to the cold position etc, but never seams to expand enough to the hot position..., the spring coil might jsut be beat.

1) And leads on replacing that lil piece of spiral wrapped metal?
I mean can i just use any metal to make it?

2) And just so I have it right... heat would cause the spiral of metal to expand, cooling, would cause the spiral to contract no?

Top has been cavaked as of 11 am, have a heater running in the shop to help it dry. How soon till I can get it wet? ( nothing labelled on the bottle haha )

Ok off to the gym, if anyone can answer any of the above I would be grateful!

:D

I use two programs to edit photos.

1. Here is one of Destin's photos, photo aged to 1964:

2. Here is another aged as a newspaper clipping from 1964:

just having fun,

dallas

What programs do you use?

So applied the canvak today on the installed top, used a spray bottle and tried to get it mostly even.
Seeing some blotchyness, maybe I should hit it again tomorrow with a brush?

Coolio

also, pulled the oilbath filter off, and when the engine was idling, put a piece of cardboard over the carb, engine just quit gracefully, no uptick in idle, so this leads me to believe there are no vacuum leaks.

However, this does not necessarily mean there are not exhaust leaks on the manifold correct, as they show under engine load correct?

:D

if its not raining, call me tomorrow....

bring me the specs on timing and let Jesse my tech touch it. He has a gift, as being a world tech at age 25

And chop artists, can you make me a HQ pic in '66 Toyota River Blue T-431 with or with out olive top.

Grassy ass.
