You all think it is a bad idea to pop the battery in and just turn the key to power and check all the lights etc?

Not bad unless you hooked something up wrong!:D I like a blade style cutoff on the battery just in case ya gotta cut power fast.
I cut my power anytime my 40 is sitting for a while. This is like the one I use.

Cool, popped the battery in but I think it is dead from sitting, so When i put the ingition in the accessory ( power but not start , nada was coming on in regards to lights etc.

Anyone that knows a thing or two and is willing to help, want to come over to my shop this weekend and get this beast running? :D

Things i need to do:

Charge battery
look over all fuel lines
connect heater hoses
fill radiator
put some gas in the tank

VRoooo0000mmm!

At the most i am jsut hoping to get it start for kicks :)
I still need to bleed the brakes etc so no driving around, ( no seats either haha ) :D

Cool let me know!
Shane if your not crazy busy and bored you should stop by man!
Be great to have a set of eyes that has done this kinda stuff alot ( first time for me really working on a truck in this way )

Man i am pumped to get this bad boy running :D

Destin, to be honest I have no idea where you find the time to put parts on that thing, sleep, work and put your tools away before you fawking take pics.....Cause I am working my ass off and now that I have this new project of seats, plus the other crap I do......

I have been in the garage for 3 hours working on stuff and I have not made a dent...

Side note, anyone seriously interested in these seats?

I would like to sell several sets quickly to ease the cost of patterning and initial costs that include.

Huge roll of scrim foam
Large roll of thread
case of bobbins
welt cord
patterning board
vinyl

So I am thinking I can knock out 6 sets and get the pricing to $300.00

Of course that would be the best quality and come with welt cord for the rear covers.

If I take them to eBay, they will get more expensive to cover fees and maybe make a dime.

I'm going with the theory

Works from home
No kids
Wife is on board
Dedicated.

and Oh Yeah.... The dog is pretty handy with a socket set!

My truck is in the same spot it was last time although - I am recruiting an extra panel beater for the shop so they can get back to it.

Keep up the great work!!

Hehe :D

Thanks guys :D

Yeah work remotely from home ;)
I super focus on s***e :D

Still have a lot of little things to do.
Forgot a few things on the list, like screwing on the speedo cable and parking brake, but that is easy peasy. And the rear tire carrier :D

Snatch these seats up guys :D
These seats are gonna look stock and sweet!

What years are they going to work with? The 63 and earlier the seat didn't have as much padding and the driver's seat it quite a bit different. I know my 68 had the grey covers.

nice :D

I clearly do not need to add myself to the list yeah ? ;)

Thanks for doing this man!

Nope!.

you are the guinea pig:flipoff2:

oy so what do i do guys.

battery is charged, 13 volts showing on the charger etc.

basically i hook the battery up. turn the key ( not to start but to "accessory" or what ever, no lights work nada...

Should i replace the fuses?

What could be the problem and how they hell do i sort it out?

oy ;(

Check you grounds. I would have to insist on bright shiny bare metal frame area with the shiny ground bolted to it. A bolt into a clean hole will not always suffice. Do you have a volt meter? If so, pull the fuses and check for voltage from one side to the other. If no volt meter go get one.

Once you have voltage at the fuse panel check the fuses for continuity with your meter.

Fuses good? On my cruiser a few of the little clips that hold the fuses were barely loose and this caused an intermittent connection. It was a huge pain to figure that out. Then see if power is getting to your switch. Check by touching a probe to a wire terminal on the switch and the other probe to the body (paint free area) and see if you have voltage.

Just remember electricity will not travel through paint.

Destin, make sure you have a body to chassis ground and engine to chassis ground, and Bills advice is spot on...definately sounds like a ground problem with all that fresh paint. Its been fun watching this build, you dont see enough of these early fj's being restored to stock specs and yours is pretty darn close!

Thanks guys:)

Bill, yeah i think there is a ground issue in the back somewhere...

Found a wire disconnected from the dash light switch, and replaced the fuses :D
Now i have lights, turn signals ( no blinking ) and brake lights and wipers etc.
The right dash blinker light is not coming on though.

Starter has power ( hit it real quick to check )
I guess I can put gas in it and start it? :D

I do have one hose disconnected form the radiator though ONE that goes form the heater to the thermostat housing ( passenger side. )

Seems like the rear all the bits have power ( even the bits that connect the rear brake lights to the brake light housing ( grounds )
Does this mean they are jsut not grounded correctly back there?
Seems like grounds should not have power, but i know s*** about electricity ( maybe if it was grounded it sould not have charge? )

I am using one of those simple meters, ground one end and it lights up if it has power on the handle.
