I've decided that since this is almost over I'm going to do a list of vendors/companies I've used to pull this project together. Then I'm going to grade their performance. If they met expectations, they get a B. That is the starting point. In order to get a higher grade, they must exceed expectations, or simply out perform. As you can see most companies did well. Local companies first.

Of course Dan gets an A+ for following his own advice and everything else he had done to help on this project. The list might grow.

Local Companies

  • Albuquerque Driveshaft: B-
  • B & K Fabrication: B
  • Capitol Scrap: B+, good prices, help hauling parts out with forklift.
  • Cruiser Dan: A+
  • Discount Tire: B+, went out of their way to get me a matching spare.
  • D&B Glass: B+, windshield done sooner than promised.
  • Edward's Engines: B-, minus for charging more than they said.
  • Kaehr Paint Shop: A-, Ron and Dolores were great to work with. Dolores liked my legs.
  • Metal Supermarket: B
  • Muffler & Brake Specialist (MBS): B-
  • Quality Powder Coating: C, only because they stopped doing "car parts."
  • R & C Bodyworks: C+
  • U-Joints: B

Out of Town Companies
  • 4x4 Labs: B+, plus for a little extra help.
  • Advanced Adapters: B
  • Alcan Spring: B
  • All-Pro: B
  • AutoReWire.com: B
  • BTB Products: B-
  • Classic Cruisers: B
  • Cool Cruisers: B
  • CruiserCrap.com: A-, for not just selling me fun stuff, but helping out with the 3FE tech.
  • CruiserParts.net: C (part was rusty and seized)
  • CV Unlimited: B
  • Del City: B
  • DOA Racing: A, for a super sweet engine and being great to work with.
  • Faultline Fabrication: F-
  • Iron Pig: A- for the skid plate, and coming out to wheel with us.
  • Jeg's: B
  • JT Outfitters: F, I would give them a minus, but that would put them on par with Faultline.
  • Man-A-Fre: B
  • Mark's Off Road (CA): B
  • Marlin Crawler: B+, plus for cutting a custom drag link and tie rod.
  • McMaster-Carr: B
  • Metal Tech: C+, frustrating delivery, but worth the wait. Great cage.
  • Missouri 4Wheelers Supply: B
  • Northern Tool: B
  • Northwest Metal Products (gas tank): A-, great to work with. Customized my gas tank.
  • Proffitt's Cruisers: B
  • Randy's Ring and Pinion: B
  • Richmond Gear: B
  • Right Channel Radios (CB): B+, plus for the club discount.
  • Ron Francis Wiring: C
  • Round Eyes: B
  • Slee Off-Road: B
  • Sky Manufacturing: B
  • Specter: B- (minus for shipping costs)
  • Speedometer Service Co: A, great to work with for both my VSS and speedometer cable.
  • Steve Kramer (Poser): B
  • Summit Racing: B+, plus for the custom off-set on the wheels.
  • Superbrightleds.com: B
  • The Eastwood Company: B
  • The Streetrod Mfg Co: B
  • TLC: B
  • Waytek Wire: B

There were many other boneyards that I didn't list. I also didn't list the local part stores including NAPA, Checker, Autozone, or places like Lowes.

You deserved it.

You missed on vendor.

You forgot to mention the most important vendor in this entire project! With out me - your ball never looked so good!:lol::lol: And your beers always stay open..

It looks great! I can wait to have a 3FE40 showdown.

I knew I forgot somebody important. Thanks Mark. This reminds me I have a Cruiser Weizen in the fridge.

... a list of vendors/companies I've used to pull this project together.

Holy cow Jon, there's 53 companies there (and the list is growing.) If you only spent an average of $100 at each vendor you've got a small fortune tied up in that truck.

For that much scratch you could have had a bad a$$ 80-Series. :grinpimp:

yes, but i didn't contribute to the project. that was for payment for parts and am now using for my project!:grinpimp:

Umm, Mike ... for what I have in this truck I couldn't afford the head gasket replacement on an 80. :flipoff2:

Interesting perspective.

True, but Mark's contribution allowed me to enjoy yours. Good stuff, BTW.

That's an interesting list Jon.

I don't know anything about Faultline, but if you rank them below JTO, then they're dead to me.

I've been doing the 60 PS swap on Dad's 40 using F-250 towers. I think I might like your solution better. I don't know just HOW parallel the rods should be, but yours look perfect to me. Not changing the ratios and effort as the steering moves.

If worse comes to worse on the body, I'll be home Sunday night, and could help you out on Monday--and I'm pretty sure I could drag a father along to get it on the frame if it misses this weekend.

I was driving all around the 2nd street/downtown industrial area today, and I certainly kept a lookout for a shop with a tan 40 tub--I was disappointed. Then I got home and googled it. I drove all the way down Central and didn't think to look in that area. I'll probably drive to the airport tomorrow just to hope to catch a glimpse of Da'40.

Faultline was a Mongolian Cluser F............you get my drift.

Made it easy for me to move up in the rankings.....:grinpimp:

Faultline pre-dates many of you. Ya want the dirt ... go here.

Whoah. Cluster doesn't begin to describe that....

Frustrating is probably a massive understatement...

We are on for Saturday!

For those folks that are helping I will be in the garage at 8am. The truck will spend the night in the secure lot at work and I will have it backed into the driveway when you get here. Some prep is needed on the tub to clean out the bed liner in the holes. Plus, I have a special challenge. BYOT, please, especially 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, and 14mm sockets and wrenches.

See ya'all then.

Jon -

I'm still figuring out my schedule for Saturday, but if I can make it, what time do you want people there? Are you saying to arrive at 8:00, or did you want people there later after you've had a chance to work on the tub?

Evan

P.S. Congratulations on the paint!

Awesome!! I am going to try and make it out there for part of the day and give you a hand and learn on how to put a 40 back together.

I'm working Saturday so the beer fridge is safe.........

Evan,

Most guys have said they will be by around 9am. Come by any time. Once I have enough muscle to set the tub we will get started. There are things that can be done while the body is on the trailer, though it might make the body heavier.

Da'Rat [doin' a happy dance.]

i'll see if i can make it. i'm in for OT, so it depends on that.

Pics on the trailer.
