Jon,

The redline on my 3FE40 is about 3800 to 4000. This was also about the same reading I had on my FJ62. Any thing over that and the engine really rev up, it's scary.

It sounds like your muffler is almost the same set up as my 3FE40. I've been using mine more and more as a daily driver, and had muffler changed out to a quiet OEM style, and took off my Magnaflow. It does not sound as cool, but I can have a conversation with my wife now. I don't see a bit of difference in power, and have not tracked the mileage yet.

Iam glad to see your making progress. I have to be in Phoenix on business in the next few month, for far are you from there?

I rev'd up the engine with Shawn standing maybe 20 feet away and I had to yell at him with the engine up around 2500rpm. In the garage it doesn't sound that loud.

Phoenix -> ABQ is about 8 hours, and not direct. Phoenix is off I-10, we are off 1-40. Route is Phoenix -> Flagstaff -> ABQ. Flagstaff is about 5½-6 hours from ABQ. Come on up of you can. We will introduce you to green chile.

I really love the magnaflow sound, but now that I've taken the time to cover the tub in Dynamat, installed carpet, and install the Vintage Air, It's all finally paying off to have the FJ40 kind of quiet and cool. ;)

I have not had Green Chile in years!! Yum - Maybe I'll fly thru ABQ?? :hhmm:

Actually it's 4 lane most of the way via Payson now. It cuts about 50 miles off the route - takes about the same amount of time as if you drive 84.99 mph via Flagstaff.

  • The rear shackle mounts need to be finish welded to the frame.

Check. Task done.

I was going to finish weld the spring perches, until I realized it would be a lot easier with the axle off the truck. Ummm, I seem to recall leaving them for exactly that reason.

I need some quick assistance between now and Sunday. I need to install the windshield frame. The PO had flopped da'40 and ripped out the brackets that hold the windshield to the dash. They were booger welded on, but for the most part were not attached to the dash. I worked up a solution this afternoon, but I need to line them up before I attach them. It's going to take two pair of hands to install the windshield frame.

Jon, not sure how much of a hurry you're in, but I have to work a half-day Friday and would be available in the afternoon. I may also have time this weekend, but unsure of timing right now. Let me know.

Jon, I will be on the west side tomorrow after 11:00am and till 3:00 if you need a hand. Just shoot me a message.

Vince,

I need to run into work right after lunch tomorrow so it's not a good day.

Paul,

PM coming your way.

I don't have anything planned for Sat. despite all you guys live in BFE, it will give me an excuse from being couped up on the couch for the last six or seven weeks (besides the two times off-roading).

Jon:

You know if you get in a bind to give me a ring. I'm not doing anything but tinkering with the 40 (now that Ash's engine is bolted back in to Michelle's cruiser) between now and next Monday.

EDIT--if it's just spotwelding, bring it up to the mountains. I recently "acquired" a spot welder. By "acquired" I don't mean stole, I mean spent all my money on. ;) It's incredible for joining sheet metal together without risking warpage or having to grind the weld later.

Opinions?

And before Mike, Steve, and Greg tell me how important this was ... I was looking for the windshield screws, found these emblems and decided to play with placement.

I still haven't found the windshield screws.

Mike is speechless and won't be saying anything ever again.

(Who do I see about a refund?)

Move the EFI to the front grill. I got that idea from some one.... I just can't remember who? :D:hhmm:

Good idea. Think I'd do that.

There, how is this? :grinpimp::grinpimp:

I don't like the new Toyota logo. It's too new.

I wonder if one were to cut a TEQ in some steel, then chrome or powdercoat it how it would turn out.... :grinpimp:

Not that I've thought about doing it, or anything.

Dan

WOW - you work fast! ;) Not to hi-jack, but did you see all the traffic over at the 3FE group about the TB's?

Yep. Your name came up.

Not a bad idea. I have a "Toyota" emblem that I pulled off a 1981 Hilux. It was just too long and I wasn't sure how it would handle the radius of the quarter panel.

I figured the sombrero was fair game since I do have bits on the truck from an 80-series. The "4WD" came off a 62, and the EFI was from a Gen1 4Runner.

Do you have or want "Land Cruiser" from a 60 anwywhere on the truck? I think I have one of those.
