Yeah....I wonder that too. I am thinking it maybe for the compass? But having a hard time with that too

Here are some ideas I had when I tackle my interior:
I want to put in a steering wheel from a newer cruiser that has the cruise control built, and radio controls built in.

And the other is a rear split bench. I love how the older 4Runners have a fold flat rear split bench. So you can carry 3 people, and have one seat folded for more gear, etc... If you're going to reupholster the seats, you could have the shop cut the frame and make two seats, just would have to add another mounting hinge point on the inside of each seat like the old 4runners. I plan to also add head rests and rear shoulder harness belts.

My $.02

Hmmmm, I like those two ideas. What year/model of steering wheel? I was thinking about modifying the rear seats to get some “bolsters” formed in the bottom to make the rear seat more comfy. This would fit in with the split back too. Do you have pics of your interior?

Hey Borrego, how does one support the rear seat back? Cuz, ya know, the cruiser naturally pushes you back into the seat with just awesome acceleration 😂

No - the 2005 to 2008 Tacoma does. That’s the source of the overhead console that I am retrofitting into my 60. I think the speed sensor may be used for the compass calibration process

60 has a vss?
sorry I see the question. I have removed the existing VSS with the diesel conversion but I do have the GM version on the new motor. However, I think I need to understand the signal characteristics to get it to work. I think I’ll get instrument techs at work to help me explore how that Tacoma compass works

These are things I want to do, I haven't done them yet...
The steering wheel with the stereo controls started in 2003. Just cruise control started earlier than that.
The rear seats on my old 4Runner had 3 connection points. The side hinge, and top pin connection (same as our 60's, and the center between the seats had a connection that held the seats together and bolted to the body. (see pic below). That's all that held the seat backs in place. You pulled the pin and the seat released from it's latch and folded down same as the 60's. I imagine the steel frames were built similar considering they are similar years of construction from Toyota. They were pretty stout. (sorry for the bad pics, I don't have the 4runner anymore and had to steal some pics from the web).

There is a center pin that connects the seats together at the bottom in the middle of the seats and bolts to the body:

And they have the pin that you pull to release them from the side of the body (same as the 60).

So you do have vss with your swap if so you can see if the Dakota digital signal box will take your vss and program it to see the Tacoma vss pulse whatever that may be pretty sure its 4 pulse as stated in a earlier post. Here is a pic of the Dakota digital signal box couldn't remember the part# but had a pic on my phone from a lsswap that i did.

You looked into using HJ61 rear seats? They are split seats to allow access to the optional third row due to the hi roofline model.

Down side is they don’t lay flat. But a duffel bag in the low part and sleeping pad can fix that.

As typical, work and other “life” stuff prevents progress. However I have made progress especially withe the new 62 dash. I had to spend a LOT of time correcting my sins with the engine swap wiring. Start with the “Old Dash” to compare to the new one

Here’s the wiring mess (which is now straighten up, simplified and put in loom along the firewall)

I currently have the seats and door cards out and off to upholstery. Should be complete with this interior in two to three weeks - The functionality of this dash is SOOOO much better

@antichrist I've been accumulating all the grey parts to swap the interior of my 62 over from brown. Not looking forward to the disassembly and re-assembly process. Yikes.

Perfect spot for the Redarc brake controller. Wish I'd thought of that before placing in a switch blank location.

Its been a long but fun journey, but I am mostly complete with getting the Antichrist past all mechanical and exterior improvements in the vein of a resto mod. Gone through the drive train including a Detroit Diesel 6.2l Turbo Diesel, paint cushion tail gate, suspension, bumpers, Yady ya.

What an awesome hood insulator!!!

I did replace the carpet with SOR carpet kit and the SOR seat covers (which faded its color very quickly. The interior is in pretty good shape and is clean and functional.

Which seat covers faded? I was looking at some of there's.

I have to finish the Rear Wiper wiring - the 62 switch allows for intermittent operation and requires a relay (which I have) Does anyone know how that relay is wired in? I look at the 62 wiring diagram and it doesn't show the relay

I forgot- I am assuming that the requirement to go to intermittent is the relay only and that the wiper motors are the same- is that true?
