That is a cool vid.

That's a VERY cool video indeed!!!!!!

Cool video......
Really cool after the 3rd beer.
I thought the guy in the helmet was The Stig.

Hahaha...I thought it was the Stig as well :D

That's about the coolest Land Cruiser in the USA. Congrats. Great video too.

Awesome truck. The best.

I agree with Cruiserdrew. I am glad you are committed to getting the truck together the way it deserves, Yooper. It sucks that it is costing you so much time, effort, and money.

Beautiful truck.

Awesome video and a beautiful truck. Haven't had a chance to fully read through the whole thread regarding the issues throughout the build but glad to see the time being spent to finish it off right.

Back on the road for a couple weeks now, after nearly two years in the shop. We had a LOT of issues but now she's running great. Making some black smoke though, so I need to learn how to tune the new boost compensator.....

Yes ,its a been a long journey, but its nearly there. Good luck with it

It looks the same as it always has other than the cool TURBO badge.

I'm still chasing electrical gremlins from Proffitt's work. Whoever they had doing the accessory wiring was a complete hack. When I turn on the heater fan the EGT needle goes crazy. When I turn on a turn signal a warning buzzer goes off. :bang:

Just move to South Georgia where you seldom need a heater and no one uses their turn signals. :)

Sorry but I couldnt help but chuckle when I read about the heater fan and the turn signals ,I had an image of the 3 Stooges in there pulling things apart and rejoining them.LOL

Is the original wiring harness intact ,or has someone butchered it?

it's been tapped into with insulation piercing connectors all over the place and nothing is properly tied down.

congrats
how bad is the black smoke?
what is the egts?

Smokes pretty hard when accelerating from low engine speeds until the turbo spools up a bunch. At 10psi it clears out.

On a level road at 100 kph at 5psi boost EGT is about 900° F. It shoots up way too fast when acclerating hard though; I can't make it up a big hill without backing off a lot. I've been very careful and haven't gone over 1000° F very often.

I think I need to turn down the fuel and turn up the boost compensation. I'm reading about all of that now...

fear shouldn't start till bumping the 1300F mark.
1000 F is well on the conservative side ... nothing wrong with that of course.
if it is dumping black till 10 psi then it is overfueling especially if you have a boost comp installed.
best of luck, you are a patient man.

x2 - I don't start backing off until it climbs past 1200. As long as it's a short burst you're fine to 1300 -

The boost comp will clean things up.
Ideally you should be on the edge of the ramp of the boost comp pin.
I'm sitting anywhere from 650-700f pre turbo cruising down the highway.

Personally I think you should up your boost. Set it to 14-15lbs and see what your egts do. They will go down with just adding air. You want to lean out those AFRs and have a safe overall tune.

Starting messing with it today. I've turned down the fuel a full turn and I'm getting much less smoke and slightly lower EGTs but now I think I'm a little under fueled at full boost (limited to about 12 psi at this point). I'm going to turn it down a bit more then starting eeking the compensation up a bit.

After that I'll try adjusting the waste gate for earlier and more boost.

At some point I'll take the plunge and take the top off the compensator and see where the spring preload (star wheel) is set and mark the pin and see where I am on it.

Fun stuff. :D

Was wondering about this truck-thanks for the update. We always appreciate more pics too.

Looked awesome on the road the other day. Let me know if you want help tuning it.

I might. I'm going to try to figure out the waste gate adjustment this weekend...I agree with you that I need MOAR boost...

Took the truck on a wheeling run. Was fun until the head gasket (second brand new one, brand new head, see above discussion) blew.

Exhaust gases are bubbling up through the overflow and pushing coolant out. It doesn't start to overheat until about half a gallon of coolant gets pushed out.
