We prefer to adapt to the H55 because you retain the rest of the drive train stock (drivelines, etc). That being said, in an FJ40 you can use your stock T-case with the NV4500.

For clarification, the $1900 kit comes with all the fabricated parts to bolt the engine in to your truck.

We do offer a complete kit for the conversion, but IIRC the parts cost including the engine, transmission, adapters, intercooler, even down to the hose clamps landed at around 20k.
 
Dear Tor,

Earlier posts indicated that the A/C compressor and options for a snorkel were still up in the air. Were you able to work those out?

If one were to have your shop do the conversion, would that be $20k + labor? Or is the $20k figure all in?
 
I am going to do the 2.8l/h55f swap in my 74 40 (original F w/3spd) and getting ready to order the motor. I just bought the h55 - all set there. Maybe I missed this in the thread, what Cummins to Toyota bellhousing should I go with? Also, any suggestions on the tcase? I am thinking trying to find a fj60 split or even a Orion? Thoughts? thanks as always
 
I recall that a company was making a R2.8 to SBC flywheel housing to allow SBC bellhousings to bolt to the motor. If that's still the case, then an advanced adapters SBC to toyota H55 bellhousing would be all you need, along with the right flywheel/clutch setup (I think also from AA).

Once again, I'm not fully plugged into these swaps, but I believe that's how it'd be done.
 
This is getting crazy expensive quick..I paid 3200 for the new h55f, the motor is 9k, the engine mount kit is 1900, the two adapters 3k, i still need a tcase and bellhousing say another 2/3k then labor. easily 25k+ .. I may go back to my original plan rebuilt 3F-E/h55f .. just need to find a roached out 62 for all the wiring and ecu. I could probably use a 2F bell in this use case - much easier/cheaper just not as cool as the 2.8
 
I am cutting 2.8 to H55f adapters at my work. I am testing now as a two piece adapter. 2.8 to H55 BH, and a flywheel adapter that mates the two flywheels.

If you go with Axis and AA, you get the 2.8 to GM adapter, and then the AA H55f to GM bellhousing and that is the setup. Except, in the FJ60 you need a two inch thick adapter (if you maintain your trans mount position) to push the engine forward TWO inches from the bellhousing and not just one as the Axis/AA combo is.
 
also, warning in general for the R2.8 and Axis/AA Engine Mounts: THEY DO NOT WORK WITH THE A/C COMPRESSOR WITHOUT MODIFICATION. I am going through this right now and am pretty disappointed this is not a disclaimer.

Fab'd the frame to isolator, install isolator, receive compressor and it interferes at least 1/2" with the passenger mount.

ALSO: Stock Cummins A/C compressor DOES NOT fit on the stock bracket without modification to the bracket or the compressor. There are nuts/sleeves pressed into the modified tabs on the compressor housing and these narrow the distance between the tabs. I will post the solution for this when I am done with it.
 
The A/C Compressor (5295582) can be installed once the Top Hat nuts are flipped around and their locating tab is filed off.

The front tab on the passenger Axis/AA Engine Mount must be ground off in order to clear the compressor.

Another note buying from Axis - they sell a Turbo Exhaust Manifold on their site for $205... this is Cummins Genuine Part : 5259411... look that up... its 45$ shipped (SLE Equipment). So far, not stoked on my experience with Axis.

Going to update again when I found A/C fittings for this compressor (from the dealer) and will provide part number so we don't have to brave another 200$ for Axis machined fittings. No doubt custom A/C lines are going to have to be made all the same.

We have engine mounts that work with the AC compressor in our kit. Also thinking about making an update to that design using hydraulic mounts instead of the 2F mounts.
