I'm really blown away that the alternator has a W wire that you can just tap into. Making the factory tach work was one of those things that I wanted to do but wasn't motivated enough to actually accomplish. With that mod, it's easy!!

Is there a specific dakota digital box you used that worked well?

I believe they only have one diesel version which is now upgraded from the one I have. Looks a lot easier to adjust.

I returned from my Vail work trip and planned on getting the new alternator in yesterday but ended up changing out a leaking faucet in the kitchen. After that I started feeling a cold coming on that I thought I beat in Colorado. Well ended up staying home from work today to rest. That will last till around lunch before I get restless and head out to the garage. However I did mock up all the wiring for the regulator this morning. Instead of cutting up the back cover from the new alt I just reused the cover from the old one. I also need to pick up a few new nuts to replace the rusty ones on the field terminals. Should have everything in and running by this evening.
I added a pigtail for the stator wire "W" for easy removal of alternator in the future. The new regulator is a bit different from the last in that I can get my tach signal from the regulator. The cheap regulator didn't pull a stator connection from the alternator. There is not much info on the Internet with people using this Transpo regulator so I'm kinda winging it with what I believe should work.

Old crappy external regulator compared to new

Alternator back in place.

New regulator installed where previous was mounted. Only had to drill one hole.

Success!! I took a bit of a break before starting prepping for explosion. Normal charging and no bouncing tach. I'm very pleased.

Random Q: What's the meaning behind "Mr. Cimarron"?
Crossing my fingers for free tee times.

My name is Cimarron Jenschke. I don't like when anyone calls me Mr Jenschke so Mr Cimarron is the less formal version. No free tee times unfortunately.

My stepson who a awesome artist did some work to my side panel. I think it turned out great. Blends into the truck perfectly. Now we need to come up with something for the drivers side panel.

The pulleys to the left of the engine bay.. looks like A/C lines coming off that cluster? but at a 90* angle to the crank? does that thing get pulleys from the crank then turn the direction to run the a/c comp and something else?

The big belt hanging to the right goes on that pulley. Yes it has some sort of gear box to them run the other accessories. That belt is tensioned by air so it's super easy to remove.

Can you not just wire in the Toyota voltage regulator to your Alt? I believe it bolts right in.

No idea. Where is it? Is it run by the ecm?

Take the tin cover off the back of the Toyota alternator it's under there where the factory alternator plug plugs into. Apparently it bolts right onto the Dodge Denso alternator.

A couple local guys have done it. I don't have a Dodge alt to try it on or I would do it and give you some pictures.

Interesting. Not I would switch back now but I will dig out my old alt later and compare it to the dodge I just took off.
