Ben- I would say it's worth 7-8k, except for the body damage... I think you posted pics a while back about the body... Do you have any shots of the worst of it? (I'm sorry if I make it out to be worse than it is)

With rust and body damage, the price goes down considerably. Even though there are small bubbles, once you dig into it, the problems will be worse than you think. If you have ever done body work you will know the time it takes to do it right. $3-5K is more realistic IMO.

I appreciate everyone's info on it....i know it's beyond hard to put a value on pic or two and description of a rig. 3K IMO is ridiculous lol, the body damage isn't that bad, and for a pig, this rig is pretty damn solid.

Much less rust than most pigs around, I tend to error on the side of making it sound worse than it is.

I know the pig market is way different from the 40, since obviously there are complete replacement parts on a 40 tub, fenders, etc and people tend to be a little more picky.

ya gotta figure only 113,000 pigs were made....unobtanium body parts, I guess you just have to figure that in. I'm glad I don't HAVE to sell it, it would prolly make me a sad and bitter man. :D

still interesting replies. Thanks for the help!

Ben,
From the feedback i have gotten on the board here, it is a good baseline for the person who is planning to purchase a cruiser. On here it would be hard to sell a rig and get top dollar for it or even an above average price for it.
Face it we are a bunch of tight asses and have resources other people who arent in to cruisers have. I would definitely say (seeing it in person) your rig is nice and worth alot more than 3k even with the rust and crinkles as well, Cmon, a well built 2F can run easily half of that.
Anyway here's a Bump

I am still mad I didn't buy the truck from Dan, oh so long ago.

Ben,It is a strange market.I think in trying to sell my pig that i would save more coin if i strip the drive train for the 45 wagon, than to sell the 55 to buy the same parts. But after the time spent bringing the 55 to life, thats not something that feels right to do.It is the only pig around here with rear quarterpanels.Cheers Rob

Don't sell it ! I still kick myself for selling my '76 55 in 1981. And selling my '74 40 in 1990. I'M KEEPING BOTH THAT I HAVE 'CAUSE IT CAUSES TO MUCH GRIEF AFTER THE FACT. And besides only a select few understand the work and $ that goes into a pig to get where yours is, and those few probably own one. Long live the pig..........OINK

Oh don't get me wrong, it wouldn't be selling to get rid of a pig....it would be to create another Pig...can you say FZJ-55??? yeah even the selling thought is HORRIBLE which is why i don't have to. Trying to line it up so I can get the donor FZJ-80 and keep my current pig for the build. Timing may just be off.

I know people on this board are cheapasses!!! :D include me, we just want a hella deal of cruiser for cheap...I would under no cirumstances sell it for super cheap...it really runs/drives/performs WAY better than most cruisers of vintage I have driven. And I have yet to find one in the "3K to 5K" range that comes close to the ride/features of mine (not sounding like an egotist or anything)

Let me tell you guys - this Pig has got more cowbell!

I practically sport wood when I see this Pig. :grinpimp:

In fact, I met Ben 'cause I stopped to stalk his Pig when he was in Ft Collins. He saw this sketchy mofo checking out Pigtastic and came out to ask if he could help me...

I told him there is no helping someone who has a fever for Pigs! :D

And if you've ever seen PabloCruise....he's about the sketchiest of MOFO's I've ever seen!!!! :D

he really was like a giddy school girl when i asked if he wanted to drive it! :grinpimp: he'll be in the pig ranks soon!

Ben, I say screw the whole FZJ-55 thing and just do stuff to the bad boy you have now. I'm still waiting for you to do a PS conversion, and some kind of crawler gear setup.

I know I know...if only I had that damn elusive guatemalan Money tree growing in my back yard! I haven't stopped collecting parts/upgrades at this point.

Power Steering....if I'd ever get my lazy butt down to Treeroots house to pick up that stuff...

Spare Tire Carrier: Going over the plans early next week with my friend, i would guess that should be done in less than 2 weeks.

Fuel Injection: Already have the goods, working Megasquirt system, already drove the donor cruiser, I would imagine that will be in possesion within a week or two as well...now putting in on may wait until the first of the year or so.

Crawler: this seems to be the hardest and most $$$$ one. many options...currently on the table WILL be an H41. That could be all for the year...if SOMEHOW things workout...I'd imagine an Orion is prolly the best bet for crawler at this point. That would put me at 80:1...which should be fine for me.

Does anyone else have all these projects that they are trying to do at the same time???

Engine

Power Steering

SOA

SM465/3spd case

I would have to go with yep.

FJBen,
my thought is, don't sell it! enjoy your pig longer and eventually pick up another project as money/time allows! I always find myself thinking up what to do next without simply enjoying the driving/wheeling/having of a 55 everday!

Our 55 is acually my sons first car, But he does'nt get his license until june '06. Seems like almost everytime i jump in one of the cruisers, i end up in the pig. Its just so comfy to drive. When i drive it i keep thinking of ways to not let him have it. I guess i should get another one. A good friend of mines daughter drives (drove) a clean '96 80, but got in a hurry yesterday on her way to school and hit a patch of ice and slammed it into a tree, basically totaling it, passenger side. Shes fine. After i heard about it and knew she was ok, all i could think about was a 55 body on an 80 platform. Hmmmmmmm

yes, cruisers are a sickness !

Thats what Ben was thinking of.....

BTW, I have a wrecked running 80..........

And a Pig body..........

That was definitely the plan...I have had a chance before to do the same but we ended up moving then...strange coincidence....

I dunno...there's something pretty fun about that damn 2F tho...

FJBen,

Recently sold my '72 and it is fairly comparable to your rig. Tons of responses but, only a few with cash in hand. PM me if you want the details.

Brian
