A question for anyone who has installed an H55F 5 speed transmission into their FJ55... Did you use a crossmember from a 60 series? If so, how did you make it fit?

Any pics of what you did would be amazing!

I think I saw an aftermarket one from Advance Adapters. Needing the same information myself.

I made a brace on top of my skid plate to support the bottom of the Tcase. Found that kept me from having to redo my exhaust and mounting braces that would make my skid plate hang lower.

I would think you could use a 60 crossmember if you used the matching bellhousing. The 3F bellhousing was clocked, and the 85+ crossmember reflects that.

I used a 60 crossmember for my 40 with a split case.

I welded angle iron to the frame and the crossmember sits in the angle. Super easy and strong.

I think I have a cross member - if you want I'll check Was going to use it on one of my H55 conversions
Let me know

Thanks guys, some great tips there.

AFAIK, FJ55's didn't have a crossmember at all. What's the thinking on not using one for an H55F transmission?

I used an early 60 series (cradle type) with a non clocked bellhousing. You can use the clocked bellhousing and a modified later model FJ60 cross member but you will have to do more fabrication to get it to work.

I have the H55, but connected to the Chevy 5.3 via an Advanced Adapter. There is no clocking with mine and due to clearance for the tailpipe I had to dip down some from the frame. Where mine needed to be is right where the frame bends out. I spent a good week thinking and building this second revision...

I'm getting ready to install a H55/case and wanted to go the 60 cross member rout. I tried Toyota, but these are discontinued. There is Advantace Adapter, or I could fabricate one(don't really want to at this time). Any other place to find this cross member? What year am I looking for?

I did what @wngrog did and used a three piece FJ60 cross member that I bought from Classic Cruisers. If they don’t have one try BTB Products. The FJ60 crossmember will not fit exactly and most likely the two side pieces will be a little below the FJ55 frame. Just know the year/type of FJ60 crossmember you get so that you can order the correct rubber/steel mount from Cruiser Outfitters.

A cross member and drive lines just came available in my area. Should I get the drivelines too? Or at least the rear driveline?

yeah buddy. I picked up the lot. Check out the modified drive lines. The guy told me they will accomodate a FJ60 up to 4-6" lift. I should be able to make these work.

The guy installed Chevy engine and Auto Trans in his 60 then sold it. He also has the All manual FJ60 Transmission stuff If anyone wants to convert a 62 to Manual.

Yea you will want both the front and rear drive shafts. They will need to be taken to a shop and made the correct length to fit the new/unique dimensions.
