My dad had to head home Saturday morning. We had breakfast then he headed out.

I moved my low point drain away from the wellhead and installed another frostproof hydrant.

What is so great about having timber on the property is always having a load to bring home.

Everything on my list was accomplished. Not only that but we went and had some much needed fun. This was definitely the best trip yet. I wasn’t really sure if I’d get my ranch entrance project done. That project was not an easy one but at least it was done pretty quickly.

You’ve done an amazing amount of work on your property, and it’s looking great!
Congrats…great pics too.
When‘s the first ‘Mud event 😂

That was said with pure jealousy...

We got our property before you got yours, and you’ve already progressed further.

Edit: I love watching your progress though.

Woodmizer called and said the LT-35 sawmill has come in. Scheduled to pick it up on November 5th. They have a class on safety & operation and also how to properly mill lumber maximizing production of the log. After the school oriented class there’s the a class on site milling lumber with the sawmill. Should be a great day. I asked how sales are now and they said business is still crazy but are having problems getting parts and engines for their sawmills. Rob said it’s a good thing we ordered when we did. They are expecting some major delays as seen by all the container ships loitering off the California coast unable to unload in a timely manner.

The hopefully good news for them is that both the LA port and the Long Beach port have finally been able to staff up and are running 24/7 to try to clear out that backlog. I suspect what lit the fire is that they think that the anchor from one of those ships in months past caught, drug, and cracked the oil pipe that caused the large oil leak in So CA.

Our place wasn’t ready to build on like yours was. I have a million trees to remove, and no level ground yet. I might be exaggerating a little bit on the number of trees. We had to cut our way into our place, and then it wasn’t safe to be there with half the trees dead from bark beetles. We’ve made progress, and hopefully the pace will soon get a lot faster now that the loader is running again.

Definitely some excitement in the cabin planning phase. This Cabins123 website is pretty nice and best part is the plans are affordable and located just a 1/2 hr from my house. I get the Woodmizer sawmill in just over a week. These plans have the complete lumber & material list needed. Only info they need is the snow load. Called the county and hope to have that and choose a cabin design. Below are several my wife and I like. None have a wrap around porch like this one below but they can change any of their plans.

Go big…
So you can invite me to stay sometime 😂
Really digging this entire thread! Nice job on everything so far.

Check your code for allowable stair rise. It does vary sometimes by state. In idaho, I could only do 7” risers, in Virginia they have an exception to the IRC and you can do 9” - you will be amazed at the room that the stairs take up.

Add another 2’ to the base footprint, it will help ya.

Think about how you are going to add on in the future

Will the county require you to get the lumber graded off the sawmill? You gonna kiln dry it?

Yes I can use my own milled lumber. Lumber just needs to be grade stamped by a licensed grader who I’ve already been in contact with. $450 to grade stamp for a half day which is easily enough to do most houses in that time frame.
No there is no need to kiln dry the lumber.

Instead of making firewood out of my Lodgepole pine logs I’m thinking I’ll make pine interior paneling for the inside of the pumphouse. At least I can play and practice.

Awesome work! Thanks for sharing as you go through it. My dream is a to build a camping/cabin property like that, but deep in the woods around the Detroit Lake area.

Detroit Lake is awesome. What a bummer the Lionshead Fire burned most of Detroit.
Earlier this year I installed the well system for the Oregon Department of Transportation maintenance yard because the water system was shutdown from the wildfire. Was a great drive and fun job.

By the way if you need a water system let me know! Thanks Jason

Nice work! Your line of work seems very well suited to someone who enjoys the outdoors, Very cool.

The area near Elk Lake and Gold Butte Lookout is my favorite area. When I went to check it out early last summer Brietenbush road was closed from the fire. I stopped into Detroit Ranger station and asked if anyone could tell me how bad it was in the areas I like to go and one ranger was able to tell me the area was mostly unaffected up there. I hope he's right.
