Just saw your msg. MapQuest doesn't recognize the Rio de Los Pinos camp;ground.
Best I can determine from other online maps is go south from Antonito on US 285. Just past CO Hwy 17 turn right on to County Road 12.5. Follow it quite a way and it'll turn into County Road (or Forest Road) 443 at the NM border. That becomes the Los Pinos River access road, which should lead you to the entrance to the Rio de Los Pinos Recreation Area and campground. Supposed to be about 15 miles.
If you find a better way, drive back to Antonito and let us know!
Ron, I’m in Santa Fe, just got notice of flash flood this afternoon about 4-4:30, watch your step

Drove to Cuba yesterday, not a single cigar to be found WTF!

Found I nice camp spot last night on 126. Hit the road early to do the 144 (31 mile road). Actually 60 miles of road. Who measures these spots. Great drive 50% very rough.

At the 285 thinking of going up to camp. Saw Ron’s note.
see all there

This is not rock solid but I did create a mini Gaia map off 285. Didn’t start it at Antonio since I thought I would be coming from the south. I have not used this and never been there but was planning on using Gaia since it is GPS driven so don’t need cell service.

I am leaving tomorrow Wednesday morning and planning to make it to Farmington. Then leaving from Farmington on Thursday to head to Rio.

I'm also planning on leaving PHX tomorrow for Santa Fe. Plan on staying the night and then heading to Rio first thing Thursday morning. I bought tickets to Meow Wolf for tomorrow night in Santa Fe. Figured the kids would get a kick out of that. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Looks like you found Teakettle Rock :-). I haven't been there in at least 30 years. On that trip, in the same area, we saw a flock of 11 wild turkeys.

If you'd like to try some good hard kombucha (or beer) while in Santa Fe, check out Honeymoon Brewery on Alameda, just south of St. Francis Drive. It's in the same shopping center as La Montanita Co-Op.

Anybody have some rock solid directions from Antonito?
Was trying to figure that out earlier today, and wish I had a solid route to give you.
From what I could find, there’s a road just a few miles west of Antonito off the 17 that turns south (map app wouldn’t produce a name or number), which ends up becoming FR103 which eventually runs into the FR284 which leads to Rio de los Pinos and heads west. FR284 then looks to become FR494 as it continues west and dead-ends in the canyon.
There also looks to possibly be a route coming in south of Antonito off the 285, but I haven’t explored that yet…

That looks to be the most direct route, Jim

So south of Antonito, County Road 443 heading west becomes FR284 and basically takes you right there and is the obviously easier route
The route I mapped on Gaia with link above is based on the directions from the YouTube video link.

We'll be heading up tomorrow afternoon, turning west from US 285 on FR 87. That turn-off is about 10 miles north of Tres Piedras (where US 64 crosses on its way from Taos to Chama). Quite a few miles later, we'll turn north on FR 87A to the Rio de los Pinos. I figure it's about 32 miles of dirt road.

Here are the gps coordinates for Rio de los Pinos campground:
Latitude 36.9549
Longitude -106.1749
Elevation 8300 ft

Of course there are maybe 10 campsites along the river according to the YouTube video so to coordinates above are to the main spot on the map.

Note that the Gaia map link I sent only goes to the wildlife area and you will need to continue down the road to get to the camp spots.

Y’all are gonna have a ball!!! Loading up uhaul today here in Steamboat than off to Oklahoma tomorrow. Will be watching the swine antics along the way!
Keep the pictures coming!!
