I have not been able to get the 4-speed skid plate to fit either. Unless I use spacers between the frame and skid plate

Good to know. I figured there would be some change with the swapped 4speed transmission (mis-aligned drain holes and what not), but the exhaust was something I wasn’t expecting.

How thick were the spacers you needed?

I believe that they were about an 1” in front and 1-1/2” rear and that was using the 3 speed skid plate I just removed it and am not running one now. The skid plate with that tab is a 4 speed plate and is a lot thinner metal than the 3 speed plate.

Well i got some pretty low quality pictures, ill have to re-do my mission with a decent camera and better angles of what you're trying to get an answer to. But here it goes. Okay, this first pic shows the edge of the skid plate at the driver's side. The left side of the photo goes to the engine, the right side of the photo is toward the rear (muffler can be seen). I drew a red line to signify where the added width of metal was welded to the 3-speed skid plate to be able to mount onto the frame. So, from the redline toward the bolt is all added metal. My father said that the 3speed skid plate was too narrow when he put it up to his frame (his frame is a 1978 4 speed). The 3 speed skid plate normally sits further up on the frame, toward the engine, and thus is more narrow than the wider 4 speed plate, which sits further back on the frame. So, he lined up the skid plate to the center point of the transmission/transfer-case and welded a strip of steel onto both the driver and passenger side of the skid plates after taking measurements. Now the once narrow 3-speed skid plate could reach the frame and the mounting holes. He then drilled out the 6 holes on the newly welded metal so he could put the mounting bolts through and tighten them to the frame.

This next picture is the rear of the skid plate. You can see part of the rear, upward pointing tab like in your picture. However, this one looks like it was cut or damaged. Its not square, but for some reason rounded. I'll ask him if he remembers cutting it off or if that is how it was when he bought it.

3rd picture shows exhaust pipe hanging below the frame. The left side of the photo is toward the engine. Right side is to the rear. You can see the exhaust pipe making its upward angle climb toward the exhaust manifold (its a 1F manifold).

4th Picture is a profile view of the exhaust pipe, skid plate, and frame taken from the driver's side. Left side of picture is toward the engine. Right side is toward the rear. I was on my way out from my father's home and about to drive away when I remembered to take photos. I did not get any measurements for you. I will have to go back and do that (ill probably go back by the late part of the weekend or beginning of next week.) Let me know if you have further questions or specific photos, measurements that you think you might need. (also, I don't explain myself very well, so if I got you confused somewhere, let me know as well). Im gonna be doing this modification to a doner-3speed plate later on. I still need to put the 4 speed transmission in, so im still quite far away from getting to the point you are currently at.

Still one more tweak needed on the rear exhaust hanger but it’s a runner!
Love those tractor sounds

Ok here is my hopeful fix for the rear hanger. The issue was only one OEM mounting hole on the early frame but also the fact that the mount does kinda cantilever way out to the side. That meant that flat plate vibrated against the frame in an annoying way. So my idea was to drill another hole in a part of the plate that is in front of a large factory frame hole. I put a large fender washer on the backside so when I tightened the 8mm bolt it would pinch the frame and hold the hanger plate tight. Hopefully no more vibration. I also put cosmoline between the frame and the plate.

Glad to see you got everything connected, exhaust sounds great!

If that doesn't hold tight, (I imagine it will be fine) you can cut a washer to the shape and thickness of your frame hole, and use it to take up the space between your large washer and the mount.

I am going to have my driver's side seat reupholstered back to vinyl and I am trying to get detailed photos of a two-part tubular frame and how the lower seat cushion is constructed, upholstered, and fastened to the upper tubular frame. Any help would be appreciated. RHW

I can snap a pic of how top and bottom frames and joined together. The frame/springs under the vinyl cover is super basic. A plate with springs wired together. Foam goes over the springs, then the vinyl covers. I would search on the board for rebuild thread with pics, I would bet there is at least one. :) Reupholstering is on my winter project list. I last redid my seats in like 2003 and the sun really wasn’t kind to the vinyl.

Thank you for the offer on the skid plate pics. I have a good idea of what areas I need to grind off on mine. It’s been super busy so I haven’t gotten around to it yet. Hoping to soon.

Picked up a sacrificial hump to cut and weld up. I am green at this so wanted to make sure I had a backup. It’s already cut up so I don’t feel bad about trying my hand at modifying this one.

I have been wondering how you’re liking the 4 on the tree. It was brutal drinking around without the trans hump but that was in the summer, but with no top on.

Unrelated to Chase’s thread but I was thinking about you a few times lately. That sounds creepy. I’ve still got that radio for you.
