thanks for the pictures but I think those are the older style 200 series interior. That is the same interior I photographed Today's back. I think the one I photographed and dimensioned was from a 2014. I'm guessing around 2016 or 2017 is when they changed the interior and those are the pictures I need.

Now I'm more confused. That is the same exact interior as the 2014 I measured a couple days ago. Is there 3 interior console options over the years? The 2009 pictured earlier has a different cup holder area than the 2014 and this one above. If there is only two console options then I need to know which years they were offered.

Wow. Aside from the knobs, button cluster etc...the actual cup holder looks just like my 2008 (so just as silly). I always figured they must have at least tried to improve them with the big interior update for 16...but maybe not?

I’ll run through my TSM and see if the part number for the cup holder has changed over the years.
Version 3.0 is printing now. Hopefully this one will fit nice and snug with no movement BUT allow the lid to close. That is going to be the biggest challenge. Making them functional and deep enough for daily cup use but allow for the lid to close. I'm not even sure it will be possible. I can't compromise on function so I may have to give up on the idea of closing the lid. If I go that route then it opens up a lot more possibilities for adding function to this cup holder like a cell phone slot, 12 volt plug, etc.

If Toyota would have abandoned the unnecessary concept of the LID...these cup-holders could have been great from the beginning. The lack of depth is half the problem.
If someone could devise a decent looking replacement that obliterates the goofy (fake-wood-cheesy) lid altogether...that would be fine by me.
How easy is it to remove the lid? I don't want to develop a product if the entire console has to be yanked from the car to remove the lid. If it just snaps out without damage then I can definitely look into a complete drop in unit that fills the entire rectangular space.
Either way you're doing the Lord's work 'cus Mr. T did not!

Why does the lid even need to be removed? Just leave it up vertically and forget about it. Mine has been up since the day I got the LX - it doesn't interfere with anything and is pretty much completely out of sight.
It’d be cleaner with it gone but I don’t think it’s a simple task.

It seems like it might appeal to a wider market if it fit in the compartment without having to remove the lid. If the water bottle holder insert is removable, the end user can have the best of all worlds, adapting to the item they want to carry.

If that cup holder is anything like the Lx, removing the lid is easy. Yank the cup holder out - it's just snapped in. Undo 2 screws, catch spring that flies at your face, and presto.

This is genius! One piece that fits in the cup holder area and allows the lid to be closed. Second piece(s) that fits in the first piece, does not allow the lid to close, but is easily removeable and allows for the safe carry of tall containers.

I believe it’s pretty simple. I’ll check and post a photo. Pull hard on cup holder...then you access the lid attachment.
I had no idea it was that easy or I’d have left it with him to do the design. I reached out and maybe we can get a complete replacement eliminating or incorporating the door.
