Ah, yes I know. The idea is still haunting me! This frame is super nice other than the very back which I am repairing. It still has leaf springs up front though.....
How was the condition of the rear/top shock mount tube welds at the frame rails?

My buddy that does my laser cutting for my roof racks took the rusty piece of the rear cross member and made me a new piece, even put a little Dogfish (Or Bowfin) in it to be fancy. I tack welded it in then took the whole rear x-member out so I can make it removable in case I take @ceylonfj40nut 's advice and go with a 4plus rear bumper. Also got the side reinforcement plates out, and a bunch of crud. Not sure if I will reuse or make new plates, they really aren't that bad. I'll decide after blasting everything. Hopefully next week I can get the frame blasted, cleaned up, repaired and powder coated.

Been sick as a dog (no offense to Buddy) so it's been hard to get the energy to move on the Chunk project. Got sick of laying on the couch today and went out for a walk, -20 wind chill be damned. Totally worth it with the sunshine.

That got me moving. Finished packaging some roof racks to ship tomorrow and headed out to sand primer. Got the roof knocked into shape. Just a couple little fix ups and it's ready for sealer and paint.

I have gotten my 60 series fix at least, thanks to my parts truck. It is doing a fine job as temporary plow rig. It runs Great now with Chunks carburetor on it.
love when DNA continues to breath life to other trucks. Hope you feel better soon!
If you switch frames shoot me a PM - I’ll come and haul Chunk’s back up to Canada.
That plow truck looks like it works well. Regardless of how it looks, pushing snow with the heat on is luxury compared to using a blower.

Will do. This one is getting the full redo either way.
I used to have a polaris ranger and it did a good job of plowing my 1/2 mile driveway for 11 years but it was just getting worn out. The 60 does the job like it's nothing and like you said, with heat. Future plan is to build a dedicated plow, play, wood hauling Cruiser for work around the home, possibly an earlier 1f fj40 that's reasonably solid. A new ranger is close to 12 grand. That buys a lot of fj40 and is way better and more fun imo.

Top side is blasted, flipping over and doing the blasting on the bottom of the frame next.
Super happy with how solid it is.
I'm going to finish the engine mounts, grind some ugly stuff off from old mods, and remove a broken bolt, then blast it one more time really tight before the coating process starts.

Ol' Chunk is coming along. Not as fast as I had hoped, but we are getting there. That shock mount tube is like brand new, no issues. It is going to be pretty straight going getting the frame ready to coat.

I loaded up the body this afternoon and got it back to the powder coat shop for final bodywork and paint. It's super cold out so the roads aren't sloppy so I figured now is the time. After this I will be off the rotisserie and can go in my enclosed trailer. I picked up the front and backed the trailer under, then picked the back and went under the rest of the way. Worked well. It was tight quarters to I used my 100 to get it done. Then switched to the f350 to haul. At least Chunk got to be out in nature for a minute!

I guess I can't say "never seen a salty winter road" now. It's about 5 miles to my shop but I went the back way and only went about 35mph. Got to the shop and nothing got on the body. So I have that going for me, which is nice.
