Also did a little experimenting with a home zinc/dichromate plating setup. I plan to send out a bunch of stuff to plate but I really wanted to know more about it so I learned up on it (a little). The zinc bath is first, then a dip in dichromate to make the durable yellow surface.

Door latch screw was plating project #1.
It works.

I got the firewall stripped tonight and ready to clean and prep for paint. Also I worked on getting the insulation off of the bottom of the roof. I scraped most of the fluff off but need to nix the glue. I think I will try some Krud Kutter or Goo Gone. That is tough stuff. It's great on that rotisserie because I can roll the truck almost all the way over and stand in the window and door openings and not work overhead.

Makes me want a rotisserie. Great work Pat.

I did a little to the frame today. After cross checking for square several more times I realized it was out about 1/8". Probably no biggie but I put one corner up against my big 12,500 pound lift forklift and gently "tunked" the opposite corner. It took an amazingly small amount to get it perfectly square.

Next I tack welded some scraps to the rear cross member and cut out the rusty part in the rear. It is amazing that the frame rusted out and the bumper was fine where they sandwich in that area. My laser cutting buddy took the cut out piece to make an exact replacement, holes and all. Then I will weld it in and make good as new.

Part of my slow pace is due to old man winter. Having to source and feed wood into the boiler is rewarding, but time consuming. Also I kind of dropped the ball and left myself without a plow vehicle, or money for one. I had gotten my rusty 87 parts truck running but zero brakes and nasty gas tank/rusty lines.
I whipped it into service with a manual turn plow from a 40, a marine gas tank on the floor, and some scab brake lines for the front. Supposed to snow again tonight and I think she is dialed in.

This thing could be my favorite cruiser of all because it refuses to die and actually contributes WORK.

Pat, if you part that thing out I’m in for the window switches

For windows? It's a 60 so crank ups. I do have a 62 I just bought for some items for Chunk but not sure it has switches. I'll check.

So sorry I didn't see, or therefore mention that rust on the rear crossmember, Pat.

I honestly did not know it was there. Seems so odd in comparison to the rest of the frame
in that region being so clean...

You could hardly tell with the bumper on there, it was kinda packed in and once the bumper came off it showed it's glory! No worries man, I love this truck, couldn't be happier. She's got some typical stuff to fix for an old truck but it is a restoration candidate dream vehicle really.

Ok Houston, we could have a problem here.

I brought the futon in the barn from the hunting "shack" because Buddy was so fussy while I was trying to work on Chunk. Great news, he loves it. Not so great news, I kinda like it too after a long, long day. Gotta stay away from that temptation and keep moving!

"That's awesome!! You just took one in the jugular man!!"

That's one of my most fav scenes ever

Amazing work. Bell's Two Hearted makes me really sleepy regardless of the time of day. One of my very favorites.

I love the stuff but I definitely can't get into it until I am pretty much done with working on everything. A relaxing demotivator!
