What is the disadvantage to having a bad charcoal canister?
My tank vents upon opening for fill ups. I’m guessing my CC could be bad, but does it harm anything?

People have had their gas tanks blow leaks when they get seriously over pressurized.

I did the GM Delco swap thing it works good for about a year but at cruise Moab this year on the last run on Saturday my tank pressured up again and I was smelling gas I'm going to do the LandCruiserPhil modification next.. when I pulled the gas cap it was literally spitting gas out at me and depressurize probably for a minute or more.

That was the problem I was having with mine. I replaced it with the VC120 from Autozone. If anyone goes this route the plastic nipple for the tank is larger then the factory hose, just a heads up.

I just finished it the hose on bottom goes nowhere now correct @OffRoadScott @LandCruiserPhil also I can bring an OEM can or two to AZ

Did this a few years ago. Works better than an old cannister but I still smell fumes and get pressure in the tank at high altitude. Best fix I have found in the mountains is to loosen the cap at altitude. I'm sure it's probably a bad idea but my gas tank hasn't exploded yet.

Yes, mine didn’t have one but just vent it.
ok to clarify I hooked up tank and purge only correct or re hook bottom line that appears to go nowhere cept the frame

If your replacement canister does have the hook up might as well connect it. But the "Tank" and "Purge" are the only ones that really matter like the one on the bottom vents to atmosphere.

thanks thats what I did as I cut the bottom line to remove old can anyway thanks Scoot. reciate the help

I did the VC120 Duralast canister. It is fat, you basically remove the bottom bracket from your truck, spread the top bracket and zip tie it tight after. The gas line will be tight, the tube on the VC120 is bigger than on the OEM, but lube it with some spit and it'll go on. $55 shipped to your house. Duralast Vapor Canister Over a week of having it and zero issues, no more extended gas release from the gas cap.

Done the same thing for 5 years, maybe it’s time to put in a new one as PM?
