Photos attached. 4/72 fj40. Stock as a rock. Rebuilt carb going on so I’m fixing vacuum leaks.
Can I remove these 2 head bolts and then put them back in /torque without causing any trouble? I need more access to replace the manifold studs. I guess I could re-torque all the head bolts per the fsm.
Also, pls check out the old (doubled up) manifold gaskets. Maybe it was time. And check out that header. Header ID anyone?

Yes, you can remove and reinstall those head bolts with zero concerns.

Mark...

I would drain the coolant first if you're going to pull those. And definitely retorque them all after.

Thanks everyone I think I have a plan. I have not heard of those stud installer removers, but I bought one on Amazon, and it arrived already!

Seems like I read in the FSM that when you adjust valves you check torque on the rocker shaft and check torque on the head bolts.

My valve cover and carb were leaking bad (badly?) so no hope of anything dry and rusty up there.
