My uncle wants to sell his 1979 fj40 but isn't sure how much its worth. The cruiser was originally from Colorado but is now in La Quinta California. The cruiser doesnt run because something is wrong with the carb, has some rust on the driverside floorboard and quarter panels, needs new weather stripping around the doors and the rear bumper has been hit. The bright side is that it has new BFG all terrains and the interior is in good shape. Thanks in advance fo your help.

I dunno but remind me not to put any floormats or stickers in/on my rig! ;-)
Cruisers aint cheap around here. People are selling worse for 6 and up. But not being able to drive it hurts the selling price.

It'd be worth investing money to get it running. If I was buying it I'd be assuming the worst... that It would need a new motor and factoring that into what I'd offer.

Thanks for the help guys, I tried to convince my uncle to get it running but he doesnt want to touch the thing. I think I'll have to get it running to help him sell it.

My Brother is looking and would pay $3000 "As Is"

damn, 3K for a non running cruiser sounds like a good deal to me... I wouldn't give but maybe a grand for it w/o it running depending on the rust issues and other problems it may have. You don't mention if it cranks, has compression or anything like that so the worst is to be assumed. my .02

1 Empty brake reservoir and half empty clutch reservoir raise red flags too!

It's not worth anything, but I'll be a good guy and "dispose" of it for you :)

I know that the cruiser passed smog when we brought it to California, and I know the engine is good because I was the last person to drive it about 3 years ago. I think I'll tell him to get rid of the old gas in the tank and send it to a carb shop.

How long has it been sitting? was the engine turned at all? a sitting vehicle is not good, especially if it has been there a long time. all the hydraulics get rusty and might need to be replaced.

You should be able to find a used carb for 50$ throw it on and see if it will start up.

what makes you believe a used carb for $50 will run any better than if he just rebuilt his own carb

rebuild kit is $25 max.
