Can a more direct exhaust eliminate turbo lag on the LC200 ?

Hello everyone,

My 2012 LC200 (Diesel) has some annoying turbo lag. I would say that i have to wait depending on the current gear, between .5 and 1 second before the turbo engage.

Furthermore i know that this diesel vehicule has a pretty limited exhaust gaz circulation due to the particle filter (Euro 5 norm in the year 2012 in France).

Does changing the complete exhaust line with a less restrictive part can lower this turbo lag or it has nothing to do with it ?

More broadly, do you think that changing for this kind of exhaust would make a real difference (a part from the sound and look which are two things i am not interested in) ?

Honestly, if Toyota thought that solution would have a positive effect they most likely would have done it already.
Unless they couldn't because of emissions regulations.

Yes for every other modifications i would agree with you. But look at EGR : Some equipements are only there for reguloratory purposes.

@electronParis have you had the intake inspected and cleaned? The EGR system typically clogs up the intake with soot and gooey carbon buildup that can and does literally choke your engine and make it seem less powerful and sluggish. Take your VDJ200 to a reputable shop for an intake inspection and clean. I’d suggest this first. You’d be surprised how clogged it can get.

See here and other similar videos. It’s quite a process but worth it.

Yes, exhaust will also help the VDFTV breathe much better. I suggest starting with the intake clean first.

@electronParis

Here’s a better video that show more the entire process of cleaning the intake. I would not suggest doing this process yourself unless you’re extremely knowledgeable with these types of projects.
