Browsing the ol' Craigslist & came across this photo of a Camry - since the thread with LS400 wheels fitting our 80's I thought maybe someone here might have tried a Camry wheel ('97 model in pic)

Dont think its been done yet.....the LS400 wheel worked with the 80 airbag...the 80 airbag wont fit right since the botton of wheel is a little different.

my ? IS WHY

my ? IS WHY

My leather ring is finally "shedding" & it's gross when you have sweaty/dirty hands.

Because I'd rather have "cheap" vinyl / plastic on the rim of my wheel, especially when playing off-pavement is the reason I was thinking a cheap model Camry wheel.

The other options are:

Buy a new wheel = $$$$ - and that's if they are even still a active part# with Toyota

Buy a wheel from the guy on here who does new leather =~$550-$600 plus core
-end result is GREAT wheel, too nice for sweaty, dirty hands

Find a good LS400 wheel in a junkyard (looks like most have wood inserts=yuk)
-not to mention the mildew that forms on the leather that never
"really" goes away.

Or - figute out a way to make a "cheap" Camry wheel work & in my mind get the benefit of no more leather on my steering wheel, since the sweaty, dirty hands thing isn't going to change, so the wheel has to.
And no- I'm not going to use any of the cheap covers from Schucks/PepBoys/whoever - those things are scary in my mind.

X2 - I would love to find any lexus or toyota ring to fit that isn't leather. One question though, would the airbags swap over? That would save a lot of money coming from the yards without the airbag.

ok sounds like i good idea search the web for steeribg wheel fitments ie momo or saas and check the boss fittments if they the same then the wheel should fit

Another option is a wheelskin or similar leather wrap. I think mine was something like $18 and after two years it still looks pretty new.

That one you have pictured in post#1 definitely wont work.

For the 95-97 Land Cruiser and LX450's, the only option other than the LX/LC steering wheel that I've found to work 100% is the 95-97 LS400 steering wheel. The 98-02 LS400 and 98-02 LX470 steering wheel also looks like it may work with minor modification, but I haven't tried yet.

One option that was suggested to me was finding someone who re-upholsters boats, where I live there is no shortage of people who do that type of work, some better than others obviously. A person in that line of work would definitely be able to get a good color vinyl or rubber I would think. I went with the new wheel from Shane and am totally happy with it. It is OEM quality and very nice as you mentioned, I'm confident it could stand up to cleaning and conditioning. Really I'd have to think most people haven't replaced their original until 100K miles or more, I don't care how clean a person is, thats a lot of dirty paws over time.
