Thinking about selling my LX470...

It is a 2005 with 68,000, Blizzard White with Tan hides. No rear video, no night vision but everything else. Mostly serviced by local Lexus dealer including all major services, new brakes, front wheel bearings packed, CV boots replaced, new rear muffler, seals around rear hatch and third brake light replaced about 2-years ago to address minor leak and AHV fluid flushed when serviced. Everything works perfectly. Michelin tires have about 25,000 miles on them and at least that many left.

Very good condition, has a couple rock chips but not even a shopping cart ding or accidents. No mods whatsoever, never ever!

Local used high line dealer offered to buy it for $31,500; what's it really worth if I were to sell in By Owner?

Frankly, that's surprising. I'd would have said you'd be doing well to sell it for the high 20's. I've seen a number of 2004's in the 70k-80k range for 25-27k. Last month in fact, I was half-way looking at an 04 with 91k (LC) on it from a Lexus dealer and he was down to $24.5k which IMO was still too high. So based upon that, I'd take the dealer up on the offer before he changes his mind. He'll need to advertise it in the high $30's to have a hope of getting margin on it... just doesn't seem like a recipe for success to me.

'04 or newer

Another lurker/newbie wanting some info from the veterans on this killer site. I considered a Sportsmobile and almost pulled the trigger on a great '06 f-350 4x4 diesel but just couldn't get over the cost, the size and the weight (11,000 lbs!!). I'll be using the LC as a daily driver but being retired that doesn't mean commuting. We'll use it for skiing every day in the winter and then mild wheeling the other 6-7 months- basically boondock camping, fishing etc. We'll likely equip it with a RTT, sliding drawers, fridge etc so it's set up like a mini SMB. We plan on keeping it in the fleet for the next 20 years. So here is the question. Is the quality of build better, as I have read on this forum, on the '04 (since it was apparently built by the "old guys" in Japan) than say the '06 which has the increased HP etc.? I'm not too hung up on the HP difference since there are other to get HP gains. Cost is a minor issue, but I want to buy the best quality I can get for the long haul.
Thanks in advance for your help.

To my knowledge, there shouldn't be any difference in build quality between an 04 and an 06. Get the 06, and take the extra horsepower!

Same. Get which ever is the best maintained/condition. They will both suit you well. The extra HP in the '06 is not that noticeable and IMO not needed.

Wow, I'm hoping I have a lifestyle like yours when I retire. Sounds good. What slopes will you be hitting up?

The LC's are all built in Japan, no worries about a particular year. The reliability will be the same for all of them. Just find one with low miles in the best condition. The only worry about the 04 models is that the computer display (MFD) is known to go out on them. It can be a pricey repair.

Best of luck LC shopping! It sounds like for the majority of your travels the LC will be a better vehicle. No need for a dedicated camper while your out on the slopes.

We live in Park City and mostly ski @PCMR with 20-30 days a year @ the Bird. Thanks for the info. Now what I need to find is a late model 100 with all the good stuff already done- suspension, Slee bumpers, winch, sliders, pull outs, fridge, roof rack, RTT etc. Anybody know where such a beast can be found for sale?
Again, thanks for your help!
Dinner for two and all the beer :beer:you can drink at Moab Brewery for a finder's fee!!

Need information from you pros.

Want to buy an ARB front bumper, 1 Bull Bar,98-02 or 03-07. Also 10-12,000 winch. Warn, Smittybilt X20, Who has the best deal on these?

Will consider used if very good but would rather have new.

WHO HAS THE BEST PRICE in US?

Desert Yeti is selling his rig and it is built to the 9s. His brother-in-law (Bump-it Offroad) builds armor for the 100 series so he has the front, rear, skids, and rack included and then he went all out with front and rear winches $1000+ lightbar, etc. The color of some of the accessories on the rig may not appeal to all but it would not be a big deal to have that stuff painted. Here is the sell thread:

Nevermind...it has sold.

my search for an 80 is fruitless and it seems i can find a 100 in much better condition for not that much more money... so this is what i'm now considering!

i found a '99 with 89k miles on it with an asking price of $13.5k. i don't think it's had the WP and TB done, but the brakes, tires, plugs, tranny flush, and starter were done between 70k-80k. does this seem fair?

this one has the rear locker but would i be better off going for a 2000+ with the atrac?

I think that is a fair price considering the mileage. If it is a private seller, I would offer them $11K while stating the the 90K PM costs around $1500.00 and see if they take it.

Markets are so funny. There's no way you'd get a 99 with 89k for $11k in the PNW. Even $13.5k would be a good deal.

Yeah, you are right. Prices are all over the place when I use Allofcraigslist.com and do a Land Cruiser search. I wonder why they are so cheap down here? We are out of the rust belt and there really aren't any extreme elevation changes that would cause extra wear to the drivetrain. No salt either. Maybe Atlanta is Cruiser-buying Mecca!

Delta in cost of living? Phoenix is pretty cheap too.

I paid 15k for mine in Feb, 138k miles with complete history and all services done plus a few others. When I was shopping I found maybe 3-4 LC's for sale in a 200 mile radius at any given time. I shopped on and off for a year. If I was willing to travel I could have saved 2-3k on the price but made up for that in gas bringing it home :D. I'm the second owner and was very happy this LC started life in Oregon.

Is this a good deal?

Ok so I drive a 96 80-series and my wife has been wanting us to be a land cruiser family for several months now. What do you all think about a 2002 LX 470 w/ 106,000 miles and all the goodies but stock. I can get it for 17,900 is this a good price?
BTW as soon as i get it my wife said i could put a 2.5 lift and 33s :bounce: i knew i married her for a reason.

at that price point, I would find a 2003 with a 5 speed

Good luck finding an 03 for under $20k!

But I do agree, the 02 vs 03 decision is easy; go 03. They do carry a premium.
