there are 4 on cars.com right now, but I would be lary of the NE

There was one in the south fo $17.5K when I was looking that sold

They are there, just have to be patient

They're either rustbelt or NE vehicles. One is at 216k (and priced high for those miles). The one at 127k and $19.9k is probably a good deal. The one at 84k and $18.9k is either the deal of the century or it's a salvage title with rust.

I guess I should qualify my previous statement: out West (OR/WA/CA/UT/NV/AZ) you won't find a sub-100k 2003 below $20k, at least not easily. The majority that I see - and I look frequently - are in the $22-23k range if private or $25-26k if at a dealer.

If the 2002 LX 470 is in good condition you will be happy with it. It is a sweet truck.
17.9 k is a fair asking price if everything works properly; negotiate from there based on the situation and the condition of the truck.

Be sure to check that the 90k service has been done (timing belt and water pump), and that the automatic height control is not screwed up.

+1... While the sub $20k 03 likely exists, finding one would likely involve buying it out of state, sight unseen, no records, and likely an East Coast rust truck... By the time you add in travel or shipping costs, time, higher than average chance that the truck is not as perfect as expected, you might as well pay a small premium and buy a nicer one. Especially if you're going to keep it for a long time. We paid barely over $20K for our 2003 with 96K on it.

Another lurker/newbie wanting some info from the veterans on this killer site. I considered a Sportsmobile and almost pulled the trigger on a great '06 f-350 4x4 diesel but just couldn't get over the cost, the size and the weight (11,000 lbs!!). I'll be using the LC as a daily driver but being retired that doesn't mean commuting. We'll use it for skiing every day in the winter and then mild wheeling the other 6-7 months- basically boondock camping, fishing etc. We'll likely equip it with a RTT, sliding drawers, fridge etc so it's set up like a mini SMB. We plan on keeping it in the fleet for the next 20 years. So here is the question. Is the quality of build better, as I have read on this forum, on the '04 (since it was apparently built by the "old guys" in Japan) than say the '06 which has the increased HP etc.? I'm not too hung up on the HP difference since there are other to get HP gains. Cost is a minor issue, but I want to buy the best quality I can get for the long haul.
Thanks in advance for your help.

It is true that the 2004's were the last year that the old timers built the 100 series. They are the highest quality 100's. There were several members with 05 and 06's that had quality problems. If I had the choice between a 2004 and a 2006 100 series with similar miles I would pick the 2004. I've owned 3 100 series and both my 2004's were perfect and never had any quality issues.

I'm looking at an 06 w/66,000 miles for $33k. It is at a Toyota dealer and CPO'd. White w/ AHC. Seems like a decent deal, any thoughts?

Can you please cite your source? I've had 0 quality issues with my 2005 at 110k now.

Thinking of selling my 2001 Land Cruiser with 101K miles. The 90K service was done by the dealer at 80K miles. It is in perfect condition and I want $17K for it. Think that is reasonable?

is this a good price? ofcourse I will take it to a LS specialist before I buy...mudrak.

IMHO, if you are in FL, I don't think I would be looking to the rust belt, to find a Land Cruiser.

It's not a function of where it's sold but where it's from. Dealer inventory comes from both auctions and trade-ins.

There's a MUD user who bought a truck out of AZ (NM?) that actually spent its life elsewhere and has significant rust. Conversely, that IL truck could be from the Southwest. Look at the CARFAX to see what it's registration history is.

True, though I think the chances are greater that a rig sold in the south is from the south, and one sold in the rust belt is from the rust belt. Because of that, I wouldn't spend my time searching the rust belt for a LC, especially since it seems there are always mudders posting about non rusty cruisers from the southern US.

The carfax shows it was a Chicago vehicle its whole life. I will move along in my search although it would be nice to find an 03/04 for that price in a more reliable area.

That my friend is exactly what make it hard to get an apples:apples comparison of a good deal. That particular LC in Chicago may be overpriced while the same in Reno would be a smokin' deal.

Just like chicks: a 10 in Minot, SD is not the same as a 10 in LA! ;)
