We were thinking Sequoia but I can't lift it high enough due to the IRS and it would be tough hustling that beast through Imogene Pass. My buddy does it in his Tundra but I i'm not feeling it. So it looks like LC 100 or 200 or LX570. I assume they can both do 3 in lift and 33s? What I am wondering is how easy a 100 cruises at 80mph fully loaded with gear and kids. I know a 200 would cruise without gear hunting but I am not sure about a 100. I could add a supercharger but I am not sure the boost kicks in low enough to keep it from hunting. Anyone seen a dyno for a boosted 100? My guess is 80mph produces 2500rpms+? My 80 wandered all over the road at 65+ due to the mushy suspension. Can the LC 100 be driven easily with one hand on the road? Any other considerations. Great forum guys.

So you're looking for power and maximum lift and you're interested in a 100? Probably not the right vehicle for you. 6000lbs unloaded with 235 hp. IFS = roughly 2" max suspension lift, although you could get an extra inch out of the body.

The LC/LX is more known for legendary build quality, ability to go 300k on oil changes and gas, and epic ride comfort going to/from the trail. And yes, a fam of 4 would fit nicely, although the Suckoya would be more roomy.

Thanks alot guys. How more hp does it have?

275 vs 235. Torque is plentiful and similar in either version. Also of note, in 2003 the trans went from 4 spd to 5 spd. By the way, 'mud has an excellent search feature which will return evidence of previous discussions ad nauseam.

My stock 98 LX seemed to zip up over the Mt. Hood passes without much issue, loaded up with 3 adults and two kids/car seats and a cargo area at least half full of clothing/baby stroller/porta crib/food/dog. I was impressed. These are mainly two lane somewhat winding highways, so not a 70 mph speed limit, but easy to maintain 55-60mph as long as the curves/traffic allowed it.

2 inch lift and 1 inch bigger tires works just fine. Sequoia is way too big to squeeze in to where I wheel.

275 is decent I guess. 5 spd will help and yes I have read tons of threads but none could tell me if the car hunts gears at 80.

The 275 is just for the VVTi 2UZ-FE engined cruiser which is only 06-07 years. Up til then it was roughly 235. As others posted, the Torque is up around 320 lb-ft which is perfect for wheeling. Just don't mistake the thing for an X5 (or a Rav4 for that matter); it's a tank. We're talking 10 sec 0-60 times. There are a few upgrades (search for DT Header Group Buy) which reportedly gives another 40 hp, but it's not been proven on a dyno and real-world doesn't move the LC/LX that much faster.

Regarding the Sucky, I was thinking that would be better at filling your road/family/power mission while one of the LC varietals (40/60/80/100) could serve as a stand-alone OHV toy.

If you've not driven one then that should be your next step. I can honestly say that nothing drives like a Cruiser. It's the perfect overlanding vehicle. Solid and comfortable yet capable and rugged. With just tires you can go just about anywhere and arrive in supreme style and comfort. Enjoy your search and post back when you find one.

Cool thanks. I did own an Fj80 for quite a while and its on road prowess was pretty pathetic when compared to modern Suvs. It hunted for gears at 75+ and hunted the pavement as well. You constantly had to street that thing to keep out straight. Wore me out on long trips. Great of road but very mediocre on road. I owned a Qx56 after that andf it was supreme on road. Seriously powerful for such a big beast. 1 trip to Colorado and I knew I needed and Fj. I just wish it was bigger and more powerful. I'm going to go drive a 2006 Abbas check it out. Thanks guys. Should I even consider the Lx470. What are the real differences? Any aftermarket support for them?

Sounds like your 80 series wasn't sorted out.

They are virtually identical (LC/LX). LX had AHC in all years and Nav was standard 01-02 while it was an option on LC's (all had Nav 03-07). There are other minor differences, mostly in trim. Drivetrain and performance is identical.

100 does great fully loaded at 85 or 100 for that matter. Nothing to be done about the fuel eccon. Welcome to the light.

Not to nitpick but on 2001 LX's NAV was an option. I wish I had factory NAV.

You're right, it's just that so few LX's had non-nav that it's a defacto standard. Kinda like 18's on 03+ LC's; you never see the 'standard' 17's...

I have to agree with pfran on this. I have the factory nav and wish I could have something a bit more upgradable without having to try and recreate a different vehicle to get it.

I'd trade no-nav for an A750F! :)

First off i'd like to introduce myself to the 100 forum. I've been here a few times and have just registered. I did see you guys presence at the FJCruiser ralley in Ouray a few weeks ago. Great event. I'm a long time LC fan having owned an FJ80. My first decent car when I got out of College. Loved it alot. I have an FJ Cruiser TRD now. Long time member of fjcruiserforums. My FJ is pretty well rigged out for expeditions(3in lift, 305-16, skids, sliders, scuba mod, on board air w/tank and impact tools, tool box built in, 2 batteries, 3K watt inverter, roof basket w/8 lights, Ex One front bumper with 9K warn, ARB fridge, jump seat in back for kids, amp, sub, back up camera, NAV).

It's been great to me but were going to have a 4th child so it's getting a bit crowded on long trips. It's also a bit underpowered when loaded up with gear and kids. It constantly donwshifts when cruising at 70+. This is very annoying when traveling all the way to Colorado and back to Texas. Plus it gets terrible gas mileage doing this. My FJ80 did this as well. Similar weight and power so I am not surprised. Love the offraod capabilites of both of these rigs though. They would both go nearly anywhere I asked.

I just sold my FJ and am making the transition to a 100-series as well. Pretty much the same reasons, but I only have 2 kids. But still, the FJ was a cave in the back seat. Good luck with your hunt for a truck!

Saw a '98 100 advertised for sale on the Big Island for 8K OBO. It had 99K miles and, supposedly, is in excellent condition. :bounce:

Provided there aren't any huge mechanical issues, thats well worth it even if is hasn't had the 90K done yet IMO. Offer 6K and see what he says. :D

I dunno, rust eats vehicles quick, on the islands!

$8K for a sub 100K mile one is a steal, regardless of year. Assuming clean title and such...
