and found deck lumber at half of what home depot sells it for.

so i built a deck fixed another and now have stairs from my smoking deck to my back yard.

when i first put the stair risers down i noticed they were not square with the new deck.

continuing on with the stairs going down into the yard.

so ripped the decking off the top deck, it was way out of square on the edge that goes down to the new deck, then i moved the joist, that the new steps connect to out to square them up, and here is where i am putting down new decking.

here is a pic of more new decking, i hate nails, the old decking was a pain to get off.

the steps are now squared up.

in this pic, i moved the outer joist out to where it is now, it used to be under the cedar trim, also the 2x4 was to keep it from dropping as i moved it over.

Are the stair stringers just sitting on dirt or did you pour some concrete or something there for them to sit on. Ideally, you'd want to have a piece of pressure-treated wood between the stringers and the concrete or dirt to prevent rot from moisture....

the stringers are pressure treated, and the 4x4s on either side of them are in the ground about 3' and in concrete, then the dirt was added to level the area up.

no good job can be complete with out spilling a little blood.
