Are those coral seat covers? Where do you find them? Pardon my naive questions, I'm a FNG here.

yea those are coral covers, got them for SOR. They are very well made and pretty expensive. i think they will be worth it in the end. i was gunna get the black ones because thats what was originally on my cruiser but the wife talked me into the coral color, glad she did cause they are nice. prolly gunna buy my wife an industrial sewing machine and get some real leather and make my own lol

on my third day of messin with that 3rd member i finally got it to come off. Been beating it with with a you guessed it "BFH". no luck with it at first, went at it with a cold chisel for a couple minutes and then it started to come. i didnt want to use the chisel or a flat head but thats just how these things go i guess. flange faces are in good shape, no gouges or nicks. got to be careful when using those tools. the inspection cover had a cork gasket that was a PITA to get cleaned the carrier has some typ of paper or composite gasket material its grey to dark gray in color and is stubborn AF. sprayed it with PB Blaster let it soak over night see if it comes easier tomorrow.

there is a little surface rust on a few teeth of the ring gear i may be able to clean it up, unsure of the protocol for a situation like this. after 3rd member rebuild will be a big help if i need to replace the RP hopefully i dont need to lol. thanks for the guidance bigredrocker.

got in touch with Manny at cool cruisers about my damaged quarter panel said he is gunna get it squared away, making a new panel and sending it out to me and ill return the damaged one upon receipt. hassle free transaction. Manny if your out there thanks again lol.

whilst doing my due diligence in looking for OEM rear shocks for my year 40, i found that the part number for fj55 front shock absorber (48511-69045) is very similar to the part number for the fj40 rear shock absorber (48531-69045) according to micro fiche. what does the first set of numbers in a part number designate? im tinking location of the part on the vehicle and not necessarily size/dimensions. website says they have them in stock gunna try to order them

placed an order for the shock absorbers. no luck discontinued ohwell
but i do have gaskets and seals coming for the rear end

got the rear axle housing blasted and ready for epoxy. i tried to cordon of the inside of te housing but blast media still got inside forgot to plug up the breather holes. got grit in the bearings so i had to remove them. i didnt want to remove them cause that would require a removal tool and i didnt want to spen 50 bucks on that so i taped and almost all the holes up but i forgot a couple and media got everywhere inside the housing, now i gots to remove the bearings anyway so i spent 25 bucks at lowes and made my own bearing puller, but its not a puller its a pusher. the bearing contact plate is a 3/8" galvanized foot plate, had to grind it down with a grinder to fit the ID of the housing. if i remember correctly it is around 2.6". and i beat the opposing end with a hammerID

removing bearings is alot easier than i thought, nothing to be afraid of here!
but i am scared of the differential housing and terms like backlash that just gives me the creeps. so ill leave it be for now and just change the seals since the bearings are in good shpe. got some gaskets and seals in the mail today so i am almost ready for this.

still not finished blasting my parts, my 2hp 6cfm compressor is finally waning. little guy served me well though. looking at the qt-54 quincy, they have one for sale down the street. anybody have experience with this compressor? i have done lots of comparisons on a lot of different compressors. The Quincy QT-54 the IR SS5L5 and the Eaton Polarair. i was about to get the Eaton but they wanted $450 for shipping so thats out of the question. now it is between a SS, 18cfm, low rpm 950ish compressor, 135 psi IR and the 2S 15.4CFM, high rpm 1300ish, 175 PSI Quincy. For those of you that have experience with these 2 compressors or compressors with similar outputs do you think the extra 3 CFM' really matter that much to justify getting a more inferior pump? not that the IR is a bad product just that the 10k hours vs 30k hours of the pump life is also kinda a big deal. it is warming up around here now will be the perfect time to prime and paint.

I got my yellow chromate operation up and running here is a couple of pics the shiny one is a new shackle from man-a-fre the others i did at home. not sure how to get the shine so for now they will remain with a dull finish.

the first pic was a trial run. i upgraded the 2x4 for a copper pipe and the fencing wire for copper wire.

The weather is warming up out here in Vegas. I thought I should get ready to shoot some epoxy so I rigged up one of those copper air coolers/water separator. Attached to that is an air filter/dryer (QC3) then I will hook up 50’ of air hose and an in-line desiccant snake.

I have 90% of everything I need to finish this money pit. I just need TIME!!

Any suggestions on my setup??

Just to note female quick disconnects were $2 cheaper at Lowe’s and if you got a pipe bender you could save a little on the 90 degree fittings. In all including the QC3 and snake I spent about $415. Pound fer pound preparation has to be the biggest expense!! Have fun with it!

got some painting done over the weekend. shot 3 coats of gray epoxy primer on all the parts then a black sealer coat. i want my undercarriage components to have a satin or dull finish so i was advised by the company to add no more than 50% acetone for the dull look of the sealer coat. some parts came out glossy some dull. i sprayed to heavy and i guess it flattened out the dull. gotta spray it thin i guess. the leaf springs i wanted a darker grey so i mixed some gray and black together and came up with a machinery gray here are some photos of them black and gray. gunna shoot the housing again with another sealer to try and dull the finish again since i kinda know what to expect.

So I was experimenting with chromate colors and came up with a dark flat bronze. I really like it and plan on doing most of my nuts and bolts with this color. The down side is I lost one of bolts pictured.

got the frame epoxied 3 coats this weekend and a sealer tomorrow. wow what a mile stone! i feel like a huge weight has been lifted. looks good to.

still got some knuckles to rebuild and a rear end to put together but once that is done ill have my rolling chassis done. a little behind schedule but a huge accomplishment none the less!

Be glad that didn’t work out; the 55 shocks don’t have a spring eye on top. They use a stud.

well dumb luck strikes twice haha, i found my wheel cylinder mounting plate bolt in a flower pot full of dirt. dont ask why or how, im just glad i found it.
