Installed the 1.5" wheel spacers in the front today. Thanks to Razorbackcruiser for the good deal!

Glad to see you got them. The wider stance looks great.

chop it

Nice progress on your dream! I’m there with you and try to start pulling anything I can that really isn’t needed. I’m working on convincing the family to chop off the rear of the 80 to make it more functional and think I have them about convinced and only need to take that next step. Your cut lines look good and are close to what I’m thinking and have even broke out the adobe to test it a little before chopping.

Its really cool to see someone actually doing it! Keep the pics coming…

Well. It looks like this build might be on hold for a while, since some mutherfxxxer thought it would be fun to break into my garage and steal about 2 grand worth of tools. I am so happy right now.

Sorry to hear about your tools being thiefed. NOT cool. Some people should....
I saw a few posts back you were thinking of Full Convertible. There is a guy on my island with a mid 90's full convertible Suburban, it is VERY cool. Very factory looking with full 2" aluminum tubing "roll cage" and a canvas top and zip in sides.
I have a line on another HDJ81 that is not in as good of shape as mine, but has some of the OEM pieces I need to make mine prettier. The body is not as nice as mine, so, if I end up with the second one, I am going to chop the top and turn it into a beach cruiser/S*&tKicker. I figure the body already has a few holes, why not make some new cool ones....

Thanks. I appreciate it.

Yeah man. I say go for it and make sure you document the project. I am all for thinking outside the box and turning your rig into something truly unique. Have fun with it!

That really blows man.

Keep a close eye on craigslist and such in your area. Most folks that steal tool like you have rarely know how to use them (cause dey dumb).

Sorry about the tools dude that sucks.
I dream about doing this to my rig every night.
Looks great.

Bummer, I hope they catch those SOBs....quickly.. X2 on watching craigslist.

death to all rat bastards who steal the s*** we work hard to acquire!!!!!

That really sucks! x3 on watching craigslist. I'll keep an eye out too.
My Tundra was broken into 3 times and it made me so mad that someone was out there looking at me knowing they have my stuff.

BFT - sorry to hear about that. Hopefully, you can get some new tools with the insurance $ but if you need to borrow any tools in the meanwhile, just let me know.

I also found that rivetnut tool and two rivetnuts for you to go with those 10/32 hex screws I gave you. Let me know when you want them.

That's why I keep my garage a mess. If anyone tries stealing my stuff they will end up needing a tetnus shot!

Hopefully insurance covers some, but it's never enough, and proving what you have lost has to be a pain.

Simpathies man...

Trust me, my garage is a mess. Probably the only thing that kept them from stealing $3000 worth of tools, instead of $1500 worth of stuff. A lot of the expensive tools were under piles of crap. Unfortunately, I dont have renters insurance... I know, stupid.:bang:

To prove what you have for renters, receipts work. If not, photograph what you have and save. Could be a picture of each tool drawer open & that works. Literally a picture is worth a thousand words & is proof of ownership.

Cheers

I feel your pain for the tool theft, but no renters insurance?
I hope you have since, gone and obtained renters insurance right?
You won't do that again.
You need to insure your stuff, especially if it is important to you.
Good Luck man hope it works out.
Still love the rig!

Getting insurance for sure. Just picked u a Millermatic 211 to replace the Lincoln today. After talking to the Miller rep for quite a while, I think it should surpass my needs. Hopefully progress will continue soon.

I have the 211 and really like it! Glad to hear you are getting back on your feet!

Ive been tuning into this thread for a bit now, it's the most suspenseful story going right now lol. Just out of curiosity... Did modifiying the roof cause any loss of structural integrity on or offroad?
