Ive been tuning into this thread for a bit now, it's the most suspenseful story going right now lol. Just out of curiosity... Did modifiying the roof cause any loss of structural integrity on or offroad?

Just a bit. When I first did it, the roof are would sort of vibrate. However, taking almost a foot out of the rear helped a lot, and the patch panel I welded on the part i cut helped a lot as well. I added some braces under the floor and will add some more behind the side panels in the rear. All that combined with the new rear bumper and roll bar I will be adding should make it WAY more rigid than stock.

Hola. Not really much progress. Work has me running around. I almost finished the bulkhead behind the rear seats. Bit more to add to make it solid, then im going to por-15 the cab side. Next I need to build the wheel wells since there are none anymore in the rear. Need to weld up the butt a bit more solid too. Also do my brakes and birfs when i get time. Im going wheeling tomorrow and I hope the whole thing doesn't fall apart :hillbilly:

Love it! I had no idea another chopped 80 was out and about! I'm on my second one and I think I'm eventually pulling the entire body and making a true FJToy.
What's with all the broken photobucket pics though?! I wanna see them!
You ever seen Cattywampus or Lorena BobIt?

Yep. I checked out both those rigs before I took saw to metal on my rig. I get a bunch of weird looks and "what is that?" questions almost daily. Im sure you must get a TON.

People take pics and laugh!
A dude at GSMTR last week said "that's.... an 80...... on a...... 80 chassis....?"
My reply, "she dirty"

Keep up the good work! I believe the biggest advantage was the dove tail.... you need to think about it, cause the rear of Lorena is now a non-issue on the trail.

Thanks man! Already thought about the dove tail. But as of now the 80 is my DD. I dont think the cops around here would like my rear wheels exposed like that.

Thought I would at least add a couple prgoress pics so my thread doesnt completely die. Here is the new bulkhead for the rear. It completely seals off the passenger area floor from the "bed." Wanted to be able to put dirty/wet junk back there without worrying about. Once I build the new wheel wells I will line-x the whole thing.

Here is a pic of how the truck is currently looking. Rear end needs to come up an inch or two, and I want to trim the fenders. But i am waiting until I get the bumpers and rear cage/spare set up in so i can see what the ride height/weight is going to be:

More updates, i like this truck so much im chopping mine soon too. if you get some time in the near future can you fix your links. i directed the guy who is helping me with my chop to your build thread so we can use it as a reference.

i am reattaching the back glass but keeping it functional/removable. i have never like anyone sitting behind me, so it will be a "3-seater" most of the time with some interior space for anything i want to lock up. i am also kicking around the idea of a removable bulkhead so i can take out the rear seats and still have decent cargo space when needed. I think the avalanche is like that.

phase 2 will be simple front tube bumper with tube under the front fenders connecting to the sliders. "quick release" front fenders and gutted half doors for trail duty. the goal is to shed some weight and width on the trail.

thanks to you, land speeder, torfab and others for the inspiration.

Ill try to fix those links when I get a chance. Progress is slow because of work. Ill try to get some wrenching done soon.

I just got a PM about a member trying to reach me via phone and getting no response. I am currently having some issues with my phone carrier so I have been using an alternate phone/number for the last few weeks. If anyone needs to reach me please just PM on here. Ill try to check in daily. Thanks!
