It certainly ain't... they don't like us welding to chassis down here...

(not that it stops some of us... sometimes...)
Ha ha I think there a few thing they would not like on my Reg on the other side of the pond, Starting with 39" tall tires 😝
There's at least a half-dozen places I have welded to the chassis

Ive seen about 10 pictures of full exo cage on 80s & it looks dumb ugly, 80s are too fat to start out with.
nukegoat & joez seem to have a happy hybrid inside/ outside cage combo that works best for the fat 80 series.

Now for Broski, those lines you chose for the bends look very well thought out & cosmetically pleasing for the 80 series bubble butt.
I see how the frame anchor point will be, but I ask will you tie-in a support up top to the tailgate latch like the yodatec brackets?

I thought about that but no I'm not going to ;) the tail gate I'm making will tie the two together

Wouldn't yodatech type brackets tweak the body and tailgate alignment if stressed hard on a hit? If it were me, I'd keep the brackets and tubing off the body and only attached to the frame, as I imagine Broski will be doing with his tailgate solution. I see the need for upper strength, but separate from the body. The trick will be allowing access to the tailgate and hatch when parked and support/protection when mobile on the trail.

Yeah, tying together both corners is a better way to do it.

The issue with the Exo cage besides Looking ugly and dumb is they lack the proper triangulation and support needed to make a strong role cage that would actually protect the occupants in the event of a rollover !!

I'm interested to see how you deal with the exhaust on PS. I like the frame tie ins on this side - looks beefy!

The frame tie in's are the same on both sides ;)
The exhaust dumps down below the frame just behind the tire. Been that way for a long time.

Spent the better part of the morning making mounts for the gate

I like the design. Well thought out!

As a sidebar, I like Rotopax. They have to be the Cadillac of jerry cans. Before I got my LRA aux tank, I horizontally stacked three, 4 gallon Rotopax upside down in the OEM spare spot. They never leaked a drop, plus they were out of the sun, so no heat expansion problems. But, it was a pain to pull 'em down to refuel and use on the trail. My overlanding usage has different needs, with the aux tank and all, but it's cool to see a well engineered project come along like your rig:cheers:

Broski, I meant that as a compliment. It's VERY well built and stout. I don't think you'll be replacing tail lights and repairing the body anymore. I might steal your design.

Ya I'm still trying to get used to the look, I think it would have looked better with 1.50" tube but it's a done deal and I think it well do the job it's intended for

I think it looks fine the way it is. Functional and clean. Well done. I assume you’re going to paint it to match the bumpers or do you have something else planned?
