Wow, that's a lot of bends in a small area.

I picked up some 1.75 DOM tube this morning o_O $ 10.34 a foot
Had a few hrs this afternoon. two try's I came up with this

There will be more pieces to fill it in.
And I think when I beef up the mount to the frame I well add one as well on each side ;)
Nice job!
The other photo I saw a photo that is not posted that really shows the craftsmanship and the other bend in that piece you can’t see from the side profile pic.

I got the other side made today notched them both to fit the bumper cut the old 1.50" tube mounts off and cut 1" off the top of the 1/4" plate up rights in the rear.
The new mounts will be 1.3/4" tube with a bigger base, gussets and 2 per side.

My daughter came in from Germany and is visiting for a few week so once again I only got a few hrs in the shop 🤷‍♂️
It's is really nice to spend time with her though !!🥰

Did a little fine tuning to the main hoops and got them tacked in then i started on the rest of the of the tubes.

When I get them where I like them I rough out a second one for the other side ;)

Looks great Broski. I like the plate/tube combo. 15-20 pounds per side? Best looking setup I’ve seen on a 80

how many sets of taillights did you go through? 😂
Three on the DS two PS 😜

First of all, nice!! Secondly, are you going to build a hoop over the wheel to the slider, or is this just a rear corner protector?

This is such a necessary thing for hardcore 80s.. the long and low tail of these trucks makes that area a magnet for rocks and trees. And taillights, shiiiiiiit, most of us 80 guys have a few broken ones laying around..

Those are great bends, compounds are hard to get spot on with bend back etc...looks good!

You know.......
To make sure this is fully structurally sound........

You need to finish out the full external cage you'll end up with eventually anyway........

No plans for wheels hoops

Not going to happen, just not my thing plus it would add to much weight. the most it would get is a cage that looks more like a rack with the supports that go through the roof and down the inside.
Something like @Josie made

Looks great Broski. I like the plate/tube combo. 15-20 pounds per side?
Your guess was spot on, I weighed all the parts for one side and they came in at 17 pounds including the extra brace piece
The rear gate came in at 20 pounds so all in it well be under 60 pounds

So all tube are made and tacked into place then I started on the the frame mounts.

I cut 4"x4" plate then tacked welded them together. then drilled the hole this way the hole are perfectly lined up. next I positioned them on the frame and marked the hole on the frame then I put the nuts and bolts on the plates and welded the nut to the back side.
Next I separated the plates and cut hole in the frame for the nuts to pass through and welded the back plates to the frame.

Now the outer plate gets bolted back on and mounts can be made to go from the plates to the bumper. That's tomorrows job.
They well be made out of the same 13/4" .120 wall tube with gussets
