What OEM brake hose is everyone using for the front axle disk brake conversion to go from the axle to the backing plate.?

For my 1971 FJ40 I did the FJ60 knuckle and disk brake swap. I have searched many many threads for the disk brake swap and have not found a reference to a OEM hose that everyone uses. I took a guess and got the brake hoses for a later FJ40 (1980-84) with disk brakes (Part number 96910-32305) When mounted the bake hoses look a little short when at full turn . I assume that the fixed point on the axle where the hose mounts is different between earlier drum brake axles and the disk brake axles

Bought a kit from Cruiserteq that had these extended braided hoses. Came with both of the hoses you are referencing along with extended hoses from frame to axles to accommodate extended travel with a mild 2.5" lift.
Can't put my hands on part #, just call Kurt.
PO had put extended shackles on it but never lengthened those hoses... little did i realize that the hoses were pulled TAUGHT during articulation!!

Oh, 74 fj40 with 83 fj60 knuckles/disc set up. SOR had the FSM partial for the 83 axle.

Based on the photo you provided, it doesn't look short at all.
It really doesn't look too bad. Turn in your steering stops and check again.
Does it have to be OEM? Are you going for the Showroom Stock look? You can buy after-market hoses off the shelf at your local race shop, you can have them made at your local hose shop, just take them your old hose with the ends you want and tell them how long and how many.

Thanks, I will give Kurt a call
I have extended lines from the frame to the axle to compensate for my lift.

I agree it isnt horrible but it does seem to me to be close to the limit for those hoses which is why wanted to check what others were using I will adjust the steering stops once I get the axle fully installed and see how they are at full turn.

Im not married to the OEM hoses but prefer them at the wheel ends over the braided steel lines.

I think it depends what backing plate you're using, if any at all. Keep in mind, stk, the line goes to the plate then a hard line goes to the caliper. It is more difficult to remove the caliper. You need to remove the 3 bolts that hold the elbow to the plate. Then remove the caliper. It's sort of a pita. In Jim's pic, it's easy to remove. I run a stk 40 plate, hose and hardline. IDK about 60 plates.

The problem with +80 backing plates is they need an inverted flare style hose. Virtually all OEM inverted flare hoses use the 17mm hex mounting tab Vs the 14ish mm round like the pre 78 hoses.

To solve this I made these handy mounting tabs to replace the originals on the axle housing. You can locate them in the +80 location more on top of the axle housing instead of the side.

Nice looking brake setup, by the way. Your rear brake conversion parts should be shipping out next week to compliment!

Back in about '94 when I converted the front to disc brakes, I compared all the bits and pieces of July '74 axle to those of the Late '76 donor axle. The knuckle flex hose looked the same on both axles. Since I kept the center housing, and my original axle had 2 year old flex lines, I kept the Drum brake flex lines and attached them to the Disc Brake backing plate. I ran those hoses till about '22 when I swapped in new flex lines because they were about 30 years old. The flex lines still looked great, but they were too old to want to use them to plumb in new calipers.

That’s because they were the same… OP used +80 components

The 17mm hex vs 14 mm round is probably why I am having trouble getting the retaining clip on the brake hose. I thought it was that the POR15 paint on the tabs was a bit to thick. I will take a look at it later.

You have all the handy mounting tabs , I will keep it in mind.

Thanks for the compliment on the front axle. I will getting it installed this weekend and then I will be ready for the rear. I hope it turns out as nicely and does justice to you adapters
