I think front rotor, pads and calipers are on the to do list this summer. Rotors are looking a little work with some grooves and a little discoloration. Calipers are OEM and i have rebuilt them once with OEM kit but that was about 150,000 miles ago. I think even then there was a little corrosion on some pistons. At 345,000 i figure a new set of calipers is in line. The brake well but i have uneven pad wear and feel like i have a little more bake drag than i would like on the driver side. So i figure i will collect some parts and get it done when i have some time.

Are the OEM front re manufactured calipers still available or is everyone using the NAPA Eclipse calipers? any issues with the Napa Eclipse? My understanding is the NAPA Eclipse are rebuilt OEMs. Are they still the ones to get?

EDIT: It looks like i found this in a old post. Are these still the right part number for OEM front remans?

Rears:

On a side note, i replace the fronts pads about every 30,000 miles and the rears last forever. I know the rears should last longer but i figure may be 2 to 1 or 3 to 1. I am going maybe 6 to1 on the front to rear pads. Maybe the rear calipers are not working well. Any insight to that?

Latest word was, the Eclipse plant in Mexico, which supplies both Napa and Toyota, is running behind. The screenshots I posted are from McGeorge, taken about a minute before I posted them. Best to call them to verify availability.

Check your caliper sliding pins and makes sure they slide. If they do, check the LSBPV for function. Your rears shouldn't last indefinitely; check them on a gravel/grassy shoulder and see if you can lock up the slippy wheel (do both sides).

Try deleting or replacing your proportioning valve.

My experience has been that the rears need to be changed everyother time as the fronts.

Already gone and ABS is gone as I am part time. When I redo the calipers I will remove the abs pump since I will have a lot of bleeding to do.

If your pistons are the only part that have corrosion on them, then i recommend you just replace those with new seals and boot. Maybe replace slide pins if they need it also. The pistons are not expensive.

New calipers from Toyota are not expensive. Beno posted up once before that the quality of reman calipers from Toyota has really declined over the years. I installed new OEM calipers a couple years ago and I didn't think the cost was excessive. It's also a done once and done forever thing, in my view. I only put 5000 miles a year on my rig, so I don't expect to have to touch the calipers again.

You sure? He said the NAPA ones are sht. Toyota remans were an alternative to new, but I believe new units got a lot more affordable compared to remans since I posted up in the NAPA thread.

You made the right choice to go with new OEM! My front OEM remans are fine 20-30K miles later. Comes with new pistons.

i debated this over and over....and went with NEW 96-97 calipers from McGeorge over the winter. new bolts too

Several years ago I went with Napa Eclipse and they have been great. It seems like there have been a lot of reports of a decline in quality though starting in 2019 or so. I am not sure how they still stack up, but I did pick up all four new OEM rotors during that killer sale that happened a couple of weeks ago. Who knows if and when I'll actually need them though.

I just tried to find Beno's comment and couldn't, so maybe I am misremembering what he posted about the quality of Toyota remans. If so, my apologies. I will say that the price, quality and peace of mind with new Toyota is worthwhile, in my view. Brakes couldn't be more important, and these rigs are getting old.

The quick search I did looked like reman Toyota were about $80 and new oem were about $250. A big difference but not the end of the world if the remans are mediocre quality. $250 each is a lot but not compaired to some of the parts I buy if that makes sense.

I hope that makes sense. I would rather not spend $500 on just the new front calipers but compared to alot of jobs I do on the truck it is not that big of a deal. But if the Toyota rebuilds are GTG it would save a bunch.

Pls do not spread misinformation. The Toyota remans are not mediocre. No one ever said they were here. They are as good as new based on my experience.

I have never had problems with Napa calipers

C'mon man, he qualified it with an if. Also your experience is a sample size of one and statistically irrelevant. I recall Onur posting about his disappointment with the quality of Toyota remans at the time and I guarantee that was based on a much larger sample size. Not "misinformation" at all and not gospel either, just the opinion of a well respected part guru.

Let's set a higher ih8 bar dude. Find me the post and I'm more than happy to stand corrected. There is NOTHING wrong with the Toyota remans and people here should take advantage of a legit OEM parts deal when it's there for the taking.

I went on Beno's recommendation to go with remans and saved a few dollhairs while at it.

He called the Napa ones sht.
