Box or pump? Any way to tell?

The steering on my HJ61 has gotten really bad, but with too many projects and way too little time, I just don't have the time to do what I would like: do a real frame-of...

Is there any way of diagnosing wether it's the pump or box that is failing?

Right around middle it feels ok, as in not noticing the problem, but it is extremely hard to do real turns! There's no squeals or groans.
It have been building up slowly, from only when really hot to constantly now. I feels it's a bit less when the truck is cold, but not much.
There's plenty of ATF in the reservoir (as in I just overfilled it, when checking the other day), belt is fine... So it's IMOP internally in either pump or box.

(Can't go Saginaw, wrong side of the Atlantic!)

Back-story: the truck has 345.000 miles on it, but a lot of parts have been changed and fixed by either me or previous owners.
I suspect seals etc. in the system, as it might have been contaminated with blasting media from having the reservoir blasted.

I have read several threads, but none wich describe how to diagnose what is what?

Most likely its' pump. You could slightly loosen high pressure hose, and see if juice squirts out big time.

Thanks, I'll try that!

My steering is heavy when the truck sits idling but as soon as I dab the throttle it springs into action and is super light. The PS when driving is perfect.

How do I get it to be light without having to blip throttle if the truck is sitting still? Truck is a 89 FJ62.

Cheers
