So searching for a winch mounting bracket to install on the tilt trailer I have.
I welded a receiver tube on the front of my trailers and have a 9,000lb warn bolted in a cradle, so I can more the winch around to different vehicles, trailers, etc. Works great on the farm, that way it isn't just sitting on one trailer doing nothing.

Well as I feared the fella cleaning the tank wasn’t physically capable of lifting and turning it. Went to pick it up and we had good chat to what I needed to do.

He installed plug in the very corner to help drain, which didn’t make sense until he told me why. He is not quite 80, has and continues to rebuild radiators (old fashion way with brass and copper) along with fixing old gas tanks. His dad opened up business in 1919!! So the amount of experience this guy had was so cool to listen to and he didn’t disappoint.

The process he told me to do included:
1) fill tank with 3 gallons regular vinegar, fill rest up with water. Let it sit 4-5 days then rinse out.

2) plug shop vac up to where it’s blowing air in tank, leave it for 2-3 hours.

3) buy 4 gallons Red Kote, poor in sealed tank, manipulate tank in various directions to ensure entire interior of tank is coated. Take and blow brief amount of air inside inlet ports.

Drain using the new plug he installed.

Set open with fan blowing on it to help remove fumes, when no fumes present any longer than it’s coated.

Have you looked into a new tank?
4 gallons of Red Kote has to be getting close to the cost of a replacement tank.
Was reading on red kotes website earlier. They don’t mention using this much. Got my myself second guessing myself that he probably said 4 quarts which is in line with what they recommend.

That’s going to be more palatable.

Every post I read from your fuel tank adventures makes me cringe a little bit. I don’t remember reading anything about the FedEx fuel tank…it this the one you’re working with?

By the way, your photos of the pup covered in bovine beauty cream was frightening… we did mud once and a skunk … had to be a lot easier the yours

Al
Still have the early tank, decided to hold onto it. See if it has a use on the 69.

With Bonnie going for transplant next month, timing with new tank would be best.

Dogs have always enjoyed cow poop, easy enough just to have them swim it off. The pic you saw got a bath! I’d take cow crap over a skunk since we have been down that road a few times.

And now it starts, will mail check tomorrow to Steve in Houston

LS3 crate motor, 430hp
High mount accessory drive
Rear sump oil pan
GM ECU and harness.

Steve feels like he will have motor by time he can start on Bonnie in 6 weeks or so.
Wow!!!
That sounds major!
I got to meet Steve this week - good guy.

Not sure if threads can be merged. But just gonna post some paint porn from Clyde I just got.

Dang it’s been slow, I’m told shooting for oct. 4th or so to pick up.

Says tailgate was kinda a biatch to put back together, which inside I said yeah no shyt. But he was successful and reports it works.

However painting rest of Clyde next week. I really want to see the roof painted.

Fantastic!
And yes, everything about the tailgate will test your patience...

Well, thought I’d be picking up pig this weekend. Nope, looks like couple more weeks.

New engine ordered. Other accessories including AC are on order per Steve which is pretty exciting!

Wife snagged a nice 62 series as she has always missed driving one since we sold hers 5 year ago. Has manual windows and 169k miles. Sellers have been great and hopefully it ships in next week or two. Wish we had time to fly up and drive back but time just isn’t on our side.

30 year anniversary coming up next May. We are strongly considering loading up Bonnie and taking epic 10 day road trip to east coast where we have never been and back.

Still a ways away but would love to get some ideas of places to see. One spot I want to see is Charleston for couple days.

Any good recommendations even though we have awhile?

If you find yourself in the northeast…. Please let me know

Haven’t been up that way much either Al. Can’t think of better way to spend the 30th anniversary then road tripping with my young bride and seeing so many cool things. We have open slate for travels.

Main recommendation is not to attempt too much in ten days. From where you're at, I'd head to Memphis, night at the Peabody to visit the ducks, walk down the alley for ribs at the Rendezvous. Then maybe Nashville and Ashville, Blue Ridge Parkway to Boone is a beautiful drive, then on the Charleston and Savannah. If it were me I'd then point 'er south all the way down to Key West. Home along the Gulf of Mexico and a stop in New Orleans. Might take a few extra days just for all that.
Jealous...We did make one of our two bucket list trips after redoing the old Porsche circa 2015-16. Full length of the West Coast and HWY1 all the way from Neah Bay WA to south of San Diego, mixture of camping and motels. Really enjoyed car week in Monterey/Carmel. Intended to do the same along the full length of the East Coast from upper Maine to Key West but not in the cards anymore.
