It’s morning!!!
We’re waiting…
Patience grasshopper!!

First thing in morning means, after I let dogs out, feed them. Sit for hour in my chair drinking coffee while watching old western.

It’s a pattern

You have to get that coffee in there, it’s the proper lubricant for the brain!

And the dogs! They are the ones we really work for…

Old John Wayne show called “3 Godfathers”.

Earlier stuff, he is actually a bank robber.

Is this the only fuel filter on your pig?

Yes sir, shall I put another closer to Engine? This is immediately after tank.

Hmm…

Not sure, but you might be doing it wrong.

Most of the applications I see filter the fuel before it reaches the engine.

Well.....Hmmmm....

This is 100% guessing at this point looking at photos you post and reading what you have typed..
That filter looks like it's about a 100-Micron give or take and you want a 10-Micron with your fuel injection. In general terms you need a much finer filter with fuel injectors than you do with a carburetors.

like we talked about before in very basic terms a fuel injector is rated in volume versus time and your fuel injection controller is assuming your injector is supplying a set amount of fuel give or take within a predetermined margin of error. All these numbers are taken at a set amount of fuel pressure and a minimum flow rate..
If we assume your injectors are "Good" and able to work within the margin of error then we would look at fuel delivery "volume and pressure" to confirm they are within the operating range. Looking at that filter I wouldn't "Assume" your injectors are "Good" and most likely need to be cleaned or replaced.
Checking everything else is easy enough and still something worthwhile but I believe a better fuel filter and new or clean injectors are in your future.

My plans have changed for today.

Draining tank, gonna blow air through it but think it’s obvious that tank needs to be pulled and I’m going to have to find radiator shop to have it treated properly.

Jim, gonna follow your lead and work on these injectors which is new chapter for me for sure.

Need to dig through @riderjgs records and identify what I’m working with and find some replacements.

Obviously everything down stream from tank doesn’t mean anything if tank source of so much rust.

but think it’s obvious that tank needs to be pulled
I wouldn't assume the tank is bad even if it has some residual rust left over it's not unusual to run a pre filter (100-Micron) before the fuel pump and a post filter (10-Micron) after the pump on a system like yours.
I would check fuel pressure with the engine running and that will tell you what to do next!

There’s a theory regarding annual inspections in airplanes. Why take a well running aircraft and every year put it through a physical and replace items. Pull hoses and put them back, etc.

Evidence shows that many aircraft related incidents are result of something that may have been related to these FAA annuals.

Although safety data does show decent results from these it’s hard to argue the flip side.

Bonnie ran great until what was probably related to broken ground for fuel pump. Swapped fuel pump thinking this was source in case not solely a ground issue.

Original tank had nice dent in it so why not change it out with spare I got from Jim. Go back to original appropriate fuel pump. Now I’ve added what I call “points of potential failure” so gonna have to figure all that out.

Appreciate everyone’s help. Gonna sneak in purchase of fuel pressure tester. Gonna be a secret until it shows up at wife’s work.

It’s all going to work out. Ready to iron all these details and start driving!!

Rabbit holes and over-thinking/over engineering can be the bane of our existence. “While we’re in here…” might also qualify. Not enough KISS in most of us.
Good luck. It’ll all work out. Hope to see you soon when you pick up “Clyde”. Better get “Bonnie” re-sorted before you add that body-swap distraction.
