Well I guess only you know all the little details and hiccups. And obviously it's up to you too run things how you see fit.

From outside, I see your transparency in relation to problems, delays, timeframe on deliveries etc.

If people placed orders way back before the SEMA debacle, charging a non refundable deposit retrospectively is not going to be fair.

Going forward, you can advertise a 20% non refundable deposit and sort the wheat from the chafe at the outset.

If people make an order knowing there's a 2-3 month lead time on delivery or what ever it is, and then change their mind on what direction to take, that's on them. If someone knew the timeframe on delivery and decided to sell their car, again that decision is on them.

Carrying the cost of cancelled orders is obviously hurting you, or you wouldn't have posted about it. There's ways to manage it fairly and reduce the pain on your part.

Advertising this doesn't prevent you using your discretion and waiving it in circumstances that are truly unavoidable such as a car being totalled.

There's been times where a non refundable deposit on big ticket items has made me pause, take a breath and reconsider my decisions beside laying down cash.

For a one of a kind quality product, if people really want it, a deposit won't stop them committing to it.

Anyway, keep doing what you do. You turn out some really cool stuff, and I don't think I've ever read a bad thing about people's dealings with you. Good luck with it all.
There's a bunch of wits end stuff I'd like to purchase, just can quite swallow the s***ty exchange rate from the Aussie pesos.

Joey,

I hope I am speaking for the MUD crowd. We appreciate your honesty and integrity as well as you jumping into the fray; offering parts and services that we really just can't get anywhere else. I will continue to support you and Wits'end and hopefully buy one of these kits in the future.

Keep up the good work, we appreciate it sir!

@Corbet

What is the cost of this process and will it negate the need for the heat wrap deal?

Saw this deal on Amazon that I'm thinking about installing in the tranny tunnel area to bring down the temps in the center console. This item has self adhesive on the back so you can stick it anywhere. Perhaps some of us will stick it under the hood, above the factory heat material?

I worked out a deal on my Cerakote but probably $200-250 for the J and down pipes. Maybe less if you live in a more competitive market than my one horse town.

I don’t expect it to negate some other form of heat reduction. The down pipe blanket Joey is working on looks nice but I’m researching other options. I fear what that blanket will look like after it’s exposed to some wet Utah clay.

I’m looking at the Aerospace industry for other heat barriers.

Joey - I’ll be sending out my J and down pipes for ceramic coating. I was wondering how many :banana::banana: it would be to disassemble the turbo housing?

I am scared of screwing up a brand new turbo, but if it turns out to be a  or:banana::banana: I would like to send in the housing too while I’m at it.

1/2 😜

it’s four bolts. Lay the turbo on the aluminum intake face. Unbolt the cast iron housing and lift straight up slowly. You just don’t want to ding the impeller.

You may want to have them mask off the inside. Scott mentioned potential flaking on the inside of the housing.

Thanks, I plan to do this as well. Probably the air can too. Anything to prevent heat soak.

I really wish I could find a ceramic coater in my area, I searched for weeks with no luck 😔

I was looking at Jet Hot, even though they aren’t local to me.

Actually most dont live near one, they just ship the pieces to the coaters. I live within 30 miles of mine but they are LA miles so might as well be 1000 miles away. I shipped mine and they shipped back.
Joey, who is your guy in LA? I may ship down to him if you recommend. The one in the north bay is very expensive, he specializes in firearms parts, not auto parts.

I really hate to be a naysayer but those of you doing the thin surface coat ceramics there really is negligible benefits for any kind of heat mitigation. The one thing they are good for is staying on the hot surfaces. So you are really just stopping rust on the downpipe and turbo exhaust housing you aren't mitigating any heat...

Understood, I am doing it more for cosmetics. The blanket on the turbine housing and the down pipe are the primary thermal insulators.

That’s good to know, was starting to think I was in some strange bubble being in NC. I’ll expand my search.

I was going to try with them as well since they are just a hour “down the road”. Tried calling and emailing several times with no response. Asked some shops in the area and they said they had similar experiences. Maybe I’ll try them again to see if I can get a hold of anyone this go around.

Jet Hot took a couple of days to get back with me. The recommended their 2500 coating for use under wrapped pipes.

I was going to wrap down and J pipes with Thermo Tec wrap. This was their recommendation for wrap to withstan

“The gen 2 copper is our best wrap. The high heat coating will help seal up the wrap from said elements.”

My expectations of the Cerakote are low in the heat prevention dept.

But boy is it pretty. Here are the manifolds.

Something really cool finally showed up out of Australia. On the Toyota #1FZ blocks we get to enjoy a timing chain instead of a silly belt. The timing chain has a timing chain guide and adjuster. The adjuster, located just above the thermostat, is hydraulic and uses oil pressure to keep slack off the timing chain. Low oil pressure, wear, etc keeps the adjuster loose and it’s what makes your timing chain noisy. There are lots of noisy timing chains out there.

This bad boy is self-adjusting. It has a firm spring pushing the adjuster forward all the time. But it goes one step further, it has a ratcheting anti-reversing lock built into it. As the timing guides where AND the adjuster adjusts, it will click and prevent the adjuster from going slack. Really smart setup. Although neither of my LX450s needs it currently, I will be trying it out on the turbo truck. Excited to see how it turns out.
