I know from back in the days with Supras and RX-7s, we run thrust bearing single turbos to make big HP, newer ball bearing turbos with the correct hot side will yield much better spool, but the good old thrust bearings can be rebuild many times, and this is running 16psi on a 13B-rew or 28+ psi on a 2J...

That’s not really a concern and it’s a very odd thing for anyone to tell someone. With old race cars that were turbo’d there was some slight concern with coking the oil, but that’s old technology and race cars pushed to the limit. You’re talking about a tractor motor using a few pounds of boost on a new modern turbo. Apples to oranges really.

And the turbo blanket doesn’t cover the center section where the oil is, it only covers the exhaust housing. There is no reason not to use an exhaust blanket on a modern turbo in a street car except for people trying to cut costs.

As for turbo timers on water cooled turbo it’s completely unnecessary

So no concern with the heat rising from the manifold when shut off

The way I understand it you want the turbo to cool down ASAP once the engine is off, is that not true?

Most factory turbos are oil and water cooled, however, most aftermarket turbos are oil cooled only. To me, adding coolant running in your turbos just adding more points of failure, plus your coolant temp will be much higher due to the excessive amount of heat the turbo generates. If you are already seeing hot engine temp, adding boost to your engine will definitely exacerbate that....

Nope when I was spec'ing everything, I made the decision that it was not needed in this application given the intended use. Just like your puma mount and your disconnects are not made out of 4340, or your flip up windows are not made from 7075 aluminum. You picked the appropriate material for the job. Comparing a 2018 journal bearing oil cooled turbo to a 1990's oil and water cooled turbo is somewhat a fools errand, nothing is comparable.

Everyone has their own perspectives with water cooled turbos like Marco said some people don't want the failure points, some people don't want to add the heat back into the coolant system.

If money was no object I would take a current CNC'd, ball bearing, oil and water cooled, Ti-gamma turbine wheel, integrated wastegate, turbo, but when that was an option to people at $9-10k not a single person was willing to step up to the plate. Just like I assume no one would buy your products if your material cost was 2-3x what it is and it did the same job.

Is there anyway to have the waste gate set at 4psi so I won’t need intercooler at all? I’m really not looking for a lot more, just enough to get over hills and get one the freeway.

There are several springs that ship with the wastegate so you can dial it in.

Just got in a bunch of exhaust components from Toyota. The Turbo Kit will be coming with new exhaust manifold downpipe studs/nuts along with the E10 socket for the studs, and two OEM gaskets. I will also be making this a kit available on the site for those just looking to swap out their Y-pipe with new hardware.

Gaskets not need. Just put a big WARNING on the manual in RED letters. "OIL CHANGE Frequently!"
Or in the Wits End turbo sticker, put a warning that says oil change to remind some of those that aren't meticulous about maintenance.
