Next up is the Oil Drain Kit. Its now 100% done except for the heat sleeving which hasn't arrived yet but it'll be part of the kit. I have a couple of things yet to order to complete 25 kits of these but I'm getting closer.

Just as I was looking at that turbo picture I was wondering what the photography setup was, or if you just photoshop everything out of the background

Drain kit looks way nicer than mine. I'm hoping I can just slap that doohicky over my existing hole. I will say the brass plug is holding fine and leak-free, so as long as the fitting is 1/2"npt, I could probably just screw it in too.

1/2” NPT ;)

In addition to learning about turbo setups, I'm also learning a little about photography setups. Who knew?

After much consideration I've decided to INCLUDE a turbo blanket as part of the kit. Originally I was going to leave you to your own devices but being as how close the turbo is to the hood AND how cheap I know some of you can be, I've decided to go with damn near the best I could find. In this case I am supplying the LAVA turbo blanket from PTP turbo and it will be, of course, Wit's End branded. :p

Would that not be bad to keep the heat in the turbo once off and the heat rises up from the manifold?

The hotter you can keep the exhaust gases in the turbo the better.

The attention to detail of this kit is just amazing.

Yes it is. You guys are getting a complete steal. Go look at turbo kits for other platforms that cost 2-3x what this will cost and have no where near this level of detail.

The way I understand it you want the turbo to cool down ASAP once the engine is off, is that not true?

Good question. My PO installed a turbo timer with the Safari kit. Is it really necessary or just wasting gas?

Turbo timer is to allow the oil in the snail to cool by circulating oil in your engine, it is completely unnecessary. Just don't drive the rig hard for the last couple miles before shut down usually does a better job at keeping the oil temp cool.

So no concern with the heat rising from the manifold when shut off

Not necessary unless you are THAT a****** that only races to the next red light. How many factory turbo cars have turbo timers?

As to the turbo blanket, I'm not going to get into a stupid pissing contest about it. I'm supplying it and you should use it because:
• It will greatly lower your underhood temps
• We are already all paranoid about underhood temps
• The turbo will cook everything around it which includes hoses and wires
• The turbo will likely cause your hood's paint to crack/peel
• You want the heat concentrated into the turbo for efficiency

Now if the turbo cooks itself because of your spirited 6psi driving after 2-3 years, well then all you have to worry about is a new turbine/housing which is the cast iron half of the turbo and the least expensive part.

Interesting I was told because the Safari turbo is oil and water cool there was no need for a timer:meh:
