I'm reading this thread, then looking at my MBZ 300E, looking at this thread, then looking at that beautiful I6 engine, looking at this thread.......

The 3.0L M104.98, or the 3.2L M104.99? Fine engine but not really a great 80 swap. Even the 3.2 was only 221hp and 229ft/lbs, so less than the 1FZ in stock form, once you turbo the 1FZ there is no comparison.

No, i was thinking more along the lines of a 2JZ going into my 103.980 and take care of this itch in another DD way!!

I'm definitely on the buyer list, but I recently went over my engine and its hungry for more than 8psi. I'm able to build my own down pipe and am interested in upgrading the fuel pump, injectors, going with the 6boost manifold, stand alone ecu and will probably have to do a shift kit. Will there be a category for this build level with one of these kits?

Haha if you can do all of those things you don't need to buy a kit!! You are talking about 500+hp with a setup like that.

1fz turbo-stock 80brakes...... i imagine there to be alotta “lightly used” turbos in the ‘parting out’ section next year :)

*setting up alerts now in parting section* ;)

Haha I have been running a turbo with extra boost on stock 80 brakes with EBC green 100 series pads and EBC rear pads. I don't have any problems.

Front:
EBC-DP71319 7000 SERIES PAD SET
Rear:
EBC-DP6993 6000 SERIES PAD SET

slippery slope these turbos...

-seat covers definitely needed for added seat soiling. (assuming u keep stock brakes)
-37s become passe as turbo now can push bigger meats
-and if u can now rock 40s- well then that means you have to buy more rungs for your RTT ladder and you will need a ‘truck nuts lowering kit ‘ so they are still low enough for the Prius crowd to see.

added costs are breaking by brain!

Lol true, but, it would be nice to be able to get things like the intercooler if that happens, wastegate, the turbo itself, oil lines and fittings, drain bung and the other little things that take time to run down.

I'm mostly in, depending upon how bolt on is bolt on? From past turbo install threads, I know that there was drilling into the oil pan for the oil cooler? Does this kit involve something like that, or is this mostly going to be removing exhaust manifold, adding in some plumbing, there, etc. Apologies for my ignorance--just wanting to make sure I'm clear on the work involved. Thanks for putting all of this together.

The drain back valve was discussed and illustrated a page or two back. Most here in past have welded on that bung but this kit has a no weld option. Yes you are still drilling pan, adding adapter ring, and tapping three holes to secure it to pan.

The drainback is not for an oil cooler it is to oil the bearing inside the turbo. The turbo has to have oil or the bearings would burn up in a matter of minutes. You will have to drill and bolt on a threaded bung for the drain hose but everything is being done to keep it as bolt on as possible.

@scottryana If I remember correctly you run hood louvers on your LX with a turbo. I'm about ready to cut into my hood to install GT louvers in the usual location. I think I have read somewhere that you stated you have no issues with water ingress. I was curious if the turbo in this kit will be located where the louver on that side of the engine will not drip rain directly on it. I think it will be further inside than the louver will be, but I wanted to see what you thought. It couldn't be good for the turbo to have rain water drip on it when it is hot. Not that I think much will when driving, but when parking somewhere in a rain storm water would likely enter the engine compartment. I have drip pans, but plan on not using them since they block so much air flow that they pretty much eliminate the usefulness of the louvers.

Went home and answered my own question. Louver will be far enough towards the outside of the engine bay to not drip on the turbo.

Does the $4000-$4500 range include the intercooler and plumbing or would that still be something we would have to add on later? If that's included and there is a $500 pre-payment discount this seems like to good of a steal to pass up. I'm in so deep at this point I might as well make my right foot happy.

If you go back one page he has already answered this question.

The pre-buy might be going to another very highly recognized company in the off-road community. This is like a win-win-win. The company has offered help with production, is willing to test, and by pre-buying is helping finance the effort. This couldn't/wouldn't happen without the great vendor community that we have here on mud! Really hits home when you are shopping the internet looking for the cheapest prices, support our vendors they support us!

Same as my GT2056 on my 3B:
