I wonder if my body mount are losing its' elastic over the years. The truck seems to ride harsh and I can feel everything single thing on the road. I got this echoing sound in the cab as well, I am not sure if it is vibration transfer from rd noise to the cabin. It has the 2.5 lift from OME. It has 121k mile, 97 LX. I did not have problem like this with my previous FZJ and LX with same ome lift. Any of you actually replace your body mount and your truck ride smoother?

I replaced my OME suspension and it rides much smoother :flipoff2:

Back when I bought my 80 it had OME medium and 285 BFG AT's @ 35 PSI it rode like crap, but you seem to be experiencing something more in NVH and I'd look at suspension bushings and drivetrain mounts unless there is something obvious in body mounts (i.e. you have a busted mount).

Look under rig for stones or other foreign objects jammed into spaces that need to flex. Body/frame or exhaust pipe or heat shield for example. Especially if you recently returned from a trip off road. Even pea sized pebbles in the wrong spots can drive you wild.:bang::mad:

Replacing the body mounts may reduce vibration and noise, but they won't make the ride much smoother.

Noise wise I saw a *HUGE* decrease when I did my body lift. I attributed this partially to having more mount (original + puck), two different materials (each will block a certain range of vibrations), and moving the body away from the frame/road.

If you've already done the OME (new springs/shocks) you might want to look at giving a body lift a try, and/or replacing the mounts while you're in there.

how labour intensive is a body lift?

Very old thread, but bang on what I need to discuss. Does anyone have specifics on what parts I need to replace the front right body mount? OEM, not a lift. ToyoDIY.com

I believe I need this? (attached)

For install... loosen all mounts on the one side, jack body up a tiny bit to get the mount out? Anyone done this?

thanks!

Apparently with an 80 aka LX450 (and probably the same with the 105 aka LX470) the two front-most mounts are impossible to replace without lifting the body as they are a fairly different design to the others (I think there are a total of five mounts each side?).

I have not attempted to source a complete set of new genuine parts (there are lots and Toyota doesn't supply body mounts in 'kits') but I see no reason to not fit genuine ones again if they're available. Body lift causes problems with other things and various juridictions have different rules on how much lift is considered legal.

I made new body mounts out of 90A polyurethane and the ride instantly got tighter. Small bump compliance also decreased pretty significantly, but it was like $50 worth of material. Local dealership gave me a quote for parts only that was around ~$800. I can't remember why it was that way, but I looked at replacing just the sandwiched center portions and it was closer to $400 but some were NLA if I remember correctly.

This is what I came up for the sandwiched mount pieces. That's what originally was torn up and disintegrating on mine.
